Cress's POV
My eyes dart around the busy streets, and I pull my black cloak tighter around me as I head towards the castle of Clarines. There's lots of people around, but most don't spare me a glance as I walk.
I think about my job today while walking. He's offering me all that money, just for spying on the second prince? I think with a scoff. And I don't even have to kill anyone. Well, I'm not complaining. It's a win-win in my opinion.
When I arrive at the castle, I avoid the front gate where the guards are stationed. This shouldn't be too hard. I slide over to the side wall. Adjusting my fingerless gloves, I begin climbing. My fingers easily find the little nooks and cracks in the stone, and it's almost too easy to pull myself up to the top of the wall.
Now, I pause. I take out a long piece of black fabric that I tie around the lower half of my face, hiding my nose and mouth. Just a precaution I take on every job, and it makes me feel safer. I also flip on my hood, tucking my shoulder-length sapphire blue hair inside carefully. I check that my dagger and throwing knives are on my belt. Yes, I wear a belt. Instead of wearing those plain, uncomfortable dresses that most women wear, I prefer a shirt and pants. Especially when I'm doing a job. Right now, I'm wearing a black shirt with a pair long black pants.
Because of my preference in dressing, I'm sometimes mistaken for a man, especially when my hair is tucked away. Whatever. It's never bothered me. If I'm mistaken for a man, it's harder to identify me when I take off my disguise.
Finally ready, I cautiously leap off the wall and lower myself down to the topmost floor of the castle. Now I really need to be careful. I dart through the halls making the least noise possible. After about an hour, I locate the second prince, Prince Zen's, study.
I decide to avoid going straight through the door, you know, since I'm on a spy mission and all. I climb outside the castle and climb over to the balcony where I can listen without being seen from the inside if I remain crouching in the corner. And I do just that when I hear voices in the study.
I prick my ears. A man's speaking. "What are the reports from Fort Lax, Mitsuhide?" The prince?
Another male voice speaks. "Prince, there haven't been any reports for the last month or so. And I've heard that the soldiers at that fort aren't patrolling as usual these days."
A female voice next. "That's rather concerning. Do you think we should go check it out, Zen?"
"Hmm," the first voice replies. "That would be for the best, Kiki. I'll try to arrange a visit to Fort Lax sometime in the near future."
I'm leaning in to hear more clearly when a voice suddenly rings out behind me. "What's so interesting in there?"
I spin around, almost losing my balance. I look for the source of the voice and find it in one of the trees nearby. It's a young man, lying nonchalantly on a branch while watching me with his cat-like yellow eyes. He has short black hair and a sand colored hairband on, along with a khaki colored shirt and black pants. I stare at him, and he speaks again in a cocky tone. "What are you doing here, you sorry little thing? I don't think you've been invited into the castle based on your clothes and behavior. Care for me to introduce you to the Prince?"
And in a flash, he's on his feet, leaping toward me. But I'm moving, too. Instinctively, I pull out a small knife, with all intent to stab it at the guy's throat. But when his eyes widen, I hesitate, then shove it back into my belt. I don't need to kill anyone. I just need to get out!
I resort to jumping off the balcony to get away from him. And the people inside the study must have noticed the commotion outside by then. If they catch me, I'd be in a lot of trouble. But due to my moment of carelessness due to my being in a rush, I land in an awkward position, my ankle rolling underneath me. Darn it.
Waves of pain are radiating from my ankle, but I push them aside as I get to my feet again and keep running in the direction of the nearest wall. If I can just get onto the wall, the guy won't be able to catch me!
"Gotcha." My heart drops at the aloof voice, and in a moment, I'm on the ground again, this time with a weight on top of me. "Why in such a hurry?" I raise my head with a groan, and see him smiling victoriously at me.
It won't be that easy. I grit my teeth, twisting my body suddenly while kicking out with my good foot. It causes him to lose his grip on me temporarily as my body shifts. In an instant, I've started running again, and this time, I make it to the wall. But when I start to climb, my ankle throbs again, and I slide back down with a cry. Crap.
By then, the man has caught up with me, and he catches me in a tight headlock. "Sorry, but you're not leaving until you answer to the Prince." He flashes a charming smile at me before swiftly banging my head against the wall. My eyes fall closed, and my last thought is about how screwed I was now.

Obi's POV
"Whew," I sigh as I place the unconscious spy onto the ground. "Almost got away from me." I glance down at the covered face. "Now let's see what you look like, shall we?"
I remove the hood, surprised to see the sapphire blue hair spilling out into view. A girl? I remove the makeshift mask from her face, pausing for a long moment after. Wow, she's pretty. I shake my head. Why am I thinking such things? She's an intruder, girl or not. And stop feeling bad for her. She almost stabbed you moments ago!
But she didn't. I sigh again, picking her up and heading to the stairs to my master's study. Whatever, I'll hand her over to Prince Zen.
