It all started with a ring

Chapter 1

Hi
I'm Harper, you know your average teenage girl, except with huge anxiety, major insecurities, and no boyfriend, which I wonder why I don't have one sometimes. Everyone says I'm beautiful with my long blonde hair and blue eyes but it seems like boys are completely immune to me. My best friends Brielle, Kora, and Eve, all of them except Eve have boyfriends and they always say I'll find the one soon, but I don't know about that.

First day of high school starts tomorrow and
according to all the adults that means my life begins tomorrow...yay. Everyone also says that once you get to high school all the boys finally hit their growth spirts, and get taller and stuff like that, but the boys at my junior high don't seem like they're gonna hit their growth spirts anytime soon.

Suddenly I get a FaceTime call alert from Eve and I pick up right away

"So what are you wearing tomorrow?!" She asked excitedly
"My light pink shirt, and black overall dress-" I got up from my bed and grabbed the outfit and showed it off to her
"Oh I love that!"

She got up form her desk and walked to her closet. She picked up a white shirt with a black mini skirt that she'll probably get dress coded for but it's the first day so that's probably exactly why she picked it

"You'll look great in that, you should do your hair half up half down and curl it, it always looks so cute like that" I said

Eve had short hair that didn't even pass her shoulders and it always looks best half up

"How should I do my hair?" I asked since she's the master at fashion

"She looked at me long and hard

"Curl it and pull the front strands back"

"Exactly what I was thinking" I replied smiling

"Great minds think alike!" She singed

"Harp! Dinner!" My mom called from downstairs

"Gotta go to my daily lecture! Text you later" I said about to end the call

"Okay bye love you!"

"Love you more!"

I hung up and walked downstairs
Ugh why do I have to eat with my mom
I thought in my head as I shuffle down the stairs for my fate like every night

"Hey mom...what's for dinner?"

"Spaghetti and meatballs" she said lazily while making herself a plate

My parents got divorced six months ago after my dad cheated on my mom with some stripper named Delia, they live somewhere in New York now, far away from where we live in California, but ever since that incident my mom has been terrible, she didn't care about her appearance, she's usually late to work because she sleeps in, she barely makes dinner anymore, I'm somewhat surprised she actually cooked tonight

I grab myself a plate of spaghetti and sit down at the island that's in our kitchen dreading this dinner

"Are you excited for school?" My mom asked

"Oh please it's school, nobody's excited, but I am excited for new people and a new year" I said and took a bite of the soft noodles

"First day of high school was terrible for me, I had just moved over the summer and I didn't know anybody, I ate alone at lunch, sat alone on the bus, but I eventually made some friends" she said

"Wow way to calm my nerves mom" I chuckled and so did she, and I wonder if that was the first time she's laughed since the divorce

We finish the rest of our food in silence and I do the dishes for her which is a lot since of course she barely does any of it anymore
