It was cold as usual, the sound of silence flooded my being. As much as I could perceive the noise of the sirens of the cars and the movement of the city, I always felt the same scorching silence that had always accompanied me. My name is Marisha Sobieski, an orphan who has grown in the streets, begging for money and praying all nights, wondering if someday all my misery will end.
Since I was little I was a strong girl. I had not been raised in an orphanage like the others, since at age 8 my parents simply left me on the street with only a package of cookies and my favorite teddy bear. I never saw them again. The first months were difficult, the cold consumed me and the hunger ate my guts, I have no choice but to go to live with the other homeless people. It was the best I could have done. I learned from them to fend for myself, they taught me to steal and get free food, and thanks to this I managed to survive. However, there were times when I went out to alms to the plaza, I didn't do it because I needed to, but because seeing the children play, have fun, gave me peace. I could see myself with my parents doing the same and that somehow comforted me, but one day my destiny changed forever. It was summer in Yokohama, and since it was sunny I decided to go out to the park as usual. Some people stopped to give me a few coins or even if I was lucky bills but suddenly a child about my age approached to give me some money.
I would never forget that face, purple eyes, black hair as the night sky and his skin was that pale and white that it seemed to be porcelain.
When I saw the bill I couldn't believe my eyes, a 1000 yen bill. He gave it to me as if it were a simple coin, The humblest act I have ever seen. When he handed it to me he said nothing, he just smiled. I was shaking but as soon as I took the bill his mother suddenly appeared.- Fyodor! I've told you to not give money to the homeless people! She said snatching the bill from my hand.
- We work hard for our money and it is not so that you spend badly on these poor souls. Swear to me that you will never do such a thing again!
Fyodor ... that was his name. I was sad but not because in the end I had not got the money, but because I knew that I would never see that child again, I would never receive such an act of love again.
