He had requested that the private jet be ready within the hour. The flight from Colorado would be short but he wanted to get there as soon as possible. He had tried to reach her most of the morning but she must have blocked him because none of his calls went through. When he used another phone to make the calls they went straight to voicemail but it was full so
he wasn't able to leave a message. His last resort was to call her brother. He gritted his teeth knowing that he would be met with animosity and thinly veiled suspicion. He couldn't blame him. It was partially his fault that Alina was involved in all this. He had not done what had to be done back then. If he had, none of this would be happening now. His heart had been shattered  so many times over the last few years that he simply had no more tolerance  for a facade of happiness, calmness or serenity. He had not known those feelings since he discovered the depths of Kyles mental decline. His only hope now was to inform Alina and find Kyle.

Michael sat in the seat with two files in his lap. He had finished reading them before he boarded the jet but he wanted to review everything again. He might just be able to glean some clue as to what Kyle had planned. They had once been so close that they could read each other's thoughts and finish each other's sentences. That felt like an eternity ago. Gone was the boy who could make him laugh with his imitations of celebrities. Gone was the brother that had stood side by side with him while they put their beloved dog Bucky to sleep. In his place stood a man he didn't know. A man with a troubled soul and delusional brain. He just couldn't put his finger on the moment when he changed. But he clearly remembered the moment he knew his brother was crazy.

It all came out the month before he graduated college. What should have been a happy time and relief turned into a nightmare of loss, betrayal and the discovery of his brothers thinly veiled mental break. Michael returned home from his trip filled with anxiety and confusion. He immediately went to see his girlfriend. He had been trying to get in touch with her since the beginning of the week. He didn't begin to suspect something was wrong until Tuesday when she hadn't returned any of his calls. She had finally left him a voicemail after he had called her all week long. She had broken up with him by voicemail. He couldn't understand what had happened. They had breakfast before he left and she dropped him off at the airport. Everything seemed perfectly fine and now she was done with him with not even an explanation.

He went to her apartment and knocked on the door. She didn't open her door but spoke to him from behind it. She told him that she didn't want to see him again and that if he didn't leave she would call the cops. He was dumbfounded. He wanted to know what had happened. She told him that she didn't like his behavior from their previous sexual encounter and that he had scarred her. He was shocked and confused and couldn't wrap his mind around what was happening . He felt as if though he had entered some alternate universe. He paced back and forth in front of the door and could hear her crying. He knocked again softly and begged her to let him in so that they could talk. He just wanted to understand where all of this was coming from. She yelled from behind the door that he needed to leave and that he was crazy if he thought she would let him in. He could tell she was distraught and he considered leaving but he needed answers. He asked her when she felt this way and why was she telling him this just now. She replied angrily that he should know. He calmed himself and asked her again and promised that if she would just answer the one question he would leave and never bother her again. "When did you first feel afraid of me when we were together?....please I want to understand what I did wrong. If I had known you were feeling that way I would have stopped. Please!"...she was quiet for a few seconds and then she said "You were always gentle and fun until Sunday night before you left. I felt like a piece of meat. You were rough and only wanted to dominate me. I just wanted it over." Michael felt sick to his stomach. He closed his eyes and balled up his fists. "Sunday before I left, you and I..." she pounded on the door. "Michael I swear if you don't leave now I will call the cops and if you so much as post the video you took of us I will find a way to sue you and your family. Leave now" she yelled. Michael opened his eyes and starred at the door and felt the blood drain away from his face.
Kyle.
