Chapter 1

In two days, school will be out and summer here we come. I’m Evelyn Foster and this is a story about a girl who had no self-respect and is always insecure about everything. My two best friends, Samantha and Kylie were always there for me and nothing could have broken us apart but what if one summer could change everything.

“Evelyn!” Samantha called as I was walking to the car park on the second last day of school. She looked fascinating as usual, with her blonde hair tied into a braid and she was wearing a sleeveless floral pattern top with a mini neon pink skirt with stunning wedges and then I looked at myself, plain checkered top unbuttoned with a singlet inside and worn out jeans and black sneakers and plain hair. “So I was planning that on the last day of school, we could go shopping than maybe sleepover at my house.” Her house was huge, and I’ve been there lots of time and I still seem to get lost around it.

“Yeah sure, have you told Kylie yet?” I asked as we walked towards to the school entrance.

“I’ll ask when she gets here and you know her, always tardy.” She guessed knowing she was right, Kylie was always the rebel and she was always against the school rules. “Oh yeah, Daniel, the guy in the football team, asked me out.” She announced excitedly, Samantha gets dates all the time, guys are like drooling every time she passes by but she’s pretty picky, she dates the cool and sweet guys who practically ends up being dumped by her.

“That’s great.” I said with fake enthusiasm. I was getting so used to not getting a date, even Kylie had a boyfriend but for one thing, her boyfriend was a sweet, shy guy, I guess opposite really does attract.

I walked over to my locker and sigh as Sam walked away. I am hopeless. I took my books out and walked to class without getting any attention. I hope this hell of a school would be over soon.

I met up with Sam and Kylie who probably came on second period, in lunch and sat at our usual table. I got my tuna sandwich out of my lunch bag and put it on a paper plate, while taking a bit off of it, Samantha was flirty with Daniel. I rolled my eyes thinking of the disgusting things they were saying. I smiled as Daniel walked back to the ‘popular’ table which I don’t get, it’s just a table.

“Isn’t he dreamy?” she sigh dreamily at the end of her sentence and I rolled my eyes again. She could do so much better.

“If you compare him to a donkey” I mumbled as I took another bite out of my sandwich. She didn’t hear probably because she was thinking of the ‘super dreamy’ Daniel. Gosh, I hate high school.

“Sam, come back to reality here?” Kylie shook Sam’s shoulder waking up for whatever she was daydreaming about. She shook her head twice and concentrated on me.

“Evelyn, can you pretty please on a cherry on top go shopping with me?” She asked with her puppy dog face. I had to admit that it always worked on me, like the time when I had to follow her to cooking class to impress her dad on father’s day.

“Why can’t you ask Kylie?” I said praying that Kylie would go for once. When Sam goes shopping, she will take forever and when I say forever, I mean forever.

“Why not we go together?” Kylie suggested making it easier for all of us. “I mean it will be like our monthly shopping spree like we always do.” She had a point; it will be like spending more time together.

“I guess it wouldn’t hurt if I bought a few things.” I shrugged making excuses in my mind to buy stuff.

“I love you guys!” Samantha said excitedly as she hugged as both then walking away.
