The night was getting darker by the minute. She stared into the deep sky which was devoid of stars, even the moon had hidden beneath the clouds, trying to get away.
Her bangles were jingling as she ran downstairs hearing the sound of his car. Her face was masked by a smile when she reached the door.
She opened the door even before he could ring the doorbell, revealing her desperation. He entered straight into the living room without even sparing a single glance at her direction.
She followed him, as he rushed towards their bedroom, probably to get ahead of her. "Please! I can explain!" she cried, her voice frantic with worry "it's not what you think!"
He didn't answer, instead he threw his cellphone carelessly on the bed, and sat on the couch. "Look at me please!" she pleaded with teary eyes, clutching his hand.
He didn't push her away, infact he didn't say a word. She clasped his hand tighter "why can't you believe me?"
He slowly turned towards her and for a moment she thought he was going to hold her in his arms but he didn't. She looked into his jet black eyes, which were cold with aloofness.
"I believed you, every single time" he replied, his voice was crisp "I'm done now!"
"Please don't say that!" she cried, holding his hands in her own "I'm still the same person when I married you!"
He laughed bitterly "marrying you was the biggest mistake I've ever done" he rasped "not anymore!"
"What do you mean?" she asked, alarmed. "I want a divorce" he said, looking away. "You don't mean that!" she yelled, unable to believe it "please trust me!"
"It's over!" he said, pushing her hands away as if she never mattered to him at all, as if nothing ever happened between them.
She composed herself, and stood in front of him, her eyes pale and tired from crying "fine" she said softly as he looked at her "you will get what you want".
"I don't need your bloody permission!" he spat "I just wanted to tell you". She nodded, unable to make sense of anything; but then, the past year had been anything but sensible.
"You will come crawling to me, I know it" she said, with a mocking smile "but I would never forgive you".
"I don't want your forgiveness!" he snarled "I just want you out of my way". She watched as he climbed the stairs hurriedly and walking to their bedroom.
After a while, he was back with a travel bag in his hand "goodbye Anya" he said, without a hint of remorse.
She didn't respond, she just collapsed on the floor wondering what to do. A small mistake had led to this, she knew it. She should never have attended her cousin's wedding, she thought ruefully.
Everything had started with that. Everything leading up to this....
