Walking into the room I had been brought to, I let out a soft gasp of surprise. The room was vast. While the walls, ceiling, and floors were all a glossy black, there was enough lights scattered throughout the space for me to see how far the room extended.
I couldn't make out all of the dark shapes scattered throughout the space, but as I moved forward, I could see what resembled a table ahead of me directly below a light. It seemed to be built into the floor, a solid block of black metal with no seams, about six-foot-long and three wide.
As I took hesitant steps towards it, motion out of the corner of my eye caught my attention and caused me to freeze. Nipples pebbling, I watched as the alien approached me. I knew what I was here for, but I was unsure what the protocol was.
I had heard of these aliens before, but their description did little justice to the reality of standing before one. Smooth skin just as dark and glossy as the walls went uncovered, just as naked as I was. Mostly humanoid, it was slightly over six-foot-tall, with two arms and two legs that looked similar enough to a human's that if you didn't look at anything else you could think it was one.
Glancing at its face, you'd quickly realize it was not human. The head was slightly oblong, accentuated by the fact that it had no hair. Its nose was flat and wide, with slits for nostrils. The lips were also almost flat and barely seemed to move as it spoke.
"Please, be welcome."
The alien's voice was clear, with no trace of accent as it spoke in perfect English. Looking up to its eyes was the strangest part. Large, they took up a good portion if its face and explained the dim lighting of the room. Where a human's eyes were white, its were black, with no iris that I could see and a yellow, slit pupil.
"Thank you," I managed to whisper.
Passing me, it made its way to the table, doing something with the things sitting on the end of it that I couldn't see since its body was in the way, but looking at the back of it gave me a clear view of the other difference between us.
The tentacles.
Below the alien's shoulder blades where three pairs of tentacles. One pair below the other, they went down it's back along the ridge of spikes that extended from its spine. The upper pair went up over the alien's shoulders, draping over its chest as the middle pair wrapped around its rib cage just below where a woman's bust would be. The third pair dropped to wrap around the alien's waist. They weren't particularly long, only about the same length as its arms, and ended in a thin blunt tip like an octopus'.
Turning back to face me, it held out a cup. I took a few tentative steps towards it before reaching out to accept it.
"I am Marlan, what are you called?"
"Sarah."
"And do you understand why you are here Sarah?"
"I was told I am to carry the child of the leader of your species."
"That is correct. Are you prepared to do so?"
"Ye-yes."
The contract I had been offered was too good to refuse. Life on Earth was horrid. Years of neglect had ruined the planet, but I would never be able to afford passage to New Earth. I had resigned myself to a short, hard life ending in a painful battle with cancer caused by the conditions of the planet I was unlucky enough to be born on.
Until I saw the notice. An alien species, unable to propagate on their own, offered free passage to any planet within the Legion in exchange for the use of the person's womb during the trip. If you qualified, you could also earn bonuses if you were chosen by higher ranking members of their society. Somehow, I had been chosen by their equivalent to a King.
