It was late at night, somewhere probably around 11pm. I had just somewhat settled down in my new home in Sangdo-dong, Seoul. I had to move from my home due to work, this is not what I expected. It's manageable, but it's quite a downgrade from the last time I had to migrate and much more crowed during the days, but manageable. I have only stayed here one night before, and I have discovered quite the peculiar neighbor. I'm not sure the name, nor even the appearance or gender. I caught a glimpse before while they were getting the mail, but it was too dark to see any defining features. Who gets the mail at night? I could make out that they had short hair, but I won't make any assumptions since any woman could wear their hair as short as the figure's. I could also make out that the figure seemed to be on the bigger side. Muscular, I mean. But, that could always be my eyes deceiving me since I hadn't been wearing glasses or contacts at that time. After placing one of the last boxes of kitchen utensils down, stacking up on other boxes with similar uses. I head up to my bedroom to strip out of my moving clothes and slip on some cozy pajamas. Finally, relaxation. I pick up a fold up sun chair I had brought from the place I still consider my home and bring it out to the nice, small balcony and unfolded it, laying down and feeling the breeze with a soft smile. I could get used to this.. it was honestly quite nice. All the people walking along the streets with festive lights hung up all around the neighborhood. It's quite a pretty sight, I cannot lie. I let my eyes flow shut, breath in, and out. After what seemed like about 5 minutes, I shuddered, my eyes opening as I hear a door creaking from my right side.
"Seriously?" I thought to myself, that person was at it again. I tried to be more considerate, maybe they have a overnight job and it was convenient to grab the mail then. But, I was still curious on who this mysterious person might be. I grabbed my glasses that were on a little glass table I put on the balcony this morning, slipping them on to get a better view of the figure standing at their mailbox.
Male, tall, probably around 5'11 or 6'0. Muscular build, dyed platinum blond hair that is usually styled back, but obviously not done yet. I can tell from the shaved sides. Very pale, almost transparent, glasses, thick lenses, obviously some serious defect. A set of gray pajamas, a crew neck and sweatpants with some Puma slides. I see him glance around him.. a plate in his hand. Before I knew it, he was coming towards my home. I panicked, my eyes widening as I jumped up from my seat and rush down, arriving there before he did. He knocked, I adjusted my pajama set, waiting a second before reaching over to the door knob and slowly opening it. Flashing a nervous smile at the taller male in front of me, but he gave me a shy one in response, not showing his teeth. Aw, how cute. But damn was he pale.. somehow even more pale up close, his skin was cold and yet his eyes are bright, showing so much aliveness. I fear he's never been in the sun before, but still attractive nonetheless.
"You're.. Seokjin, my new neighbor. Correct?" the pale boy asked, I gave him a nod. Just a welcoming to the neighborhood. A little weird to do this late at night, but I can still appreciate the efforts.
"Yes, this is him. What brings you here this time of night?" he scratched the back of his head.
"Ah.. sorry about that. I'm always busy during the day, and I work overnights.. I'm on my way to work now and I saw you were awake so.. I wanted to give you this." he handed me a plate with a dessert. Piece of cake, to be specific. I glance down at it before looking back in his glossy eyes. I shook my head,
"Don't worry about it, as long as I'm not asleep. It's all good.. what's this?" I asked curiously, taking the glass plate into my hands. The tall boy glanced to the ground before responding, he seems to be the shy type. Again, cute.
"Oh uh.. it's a red velvet cake, my friend made it. From what it seems.. you don't deserve my baking, it's terrible." he laughed softly, slipping his hands into his pocket, finally deciding on where to settle them. I smiled,
"Thank you... uh.. I didn't catch your name. What was it?" I tilted my head off to the and he gave a small smile. I took the time to admire is red lips, and crystalline, icy, piecing, gorgeous blue eyes. There's not enough words to describe them, I've never seen eyes like his, I've been all around this country and have never seen it before. Not even foreigners I've meant had blue eyes like him. Yes.. I was into guys with deeper skin complexions and he was more pale than paper. And yes, I'm gay. Anyways,
"The name's Namjoon. It's nice to meet you, Seokjin."
"Ah please.. call me Jin. It's been nice to meet too."
We stayed in awkward silence for a few moments, glancing around to avoid eye contact with each other. As much as I wanted to look at his eyes again, I restricted myself. Maybe life doesn't have to be only work.. maybe I can make some friends for once. I didn't want to mess this up, he's pretty hot. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
"Jin.. Jin.. I like that. Well.. I should be heading to work before I'm late and you should get some rest.. it's already pass 1." he looked beyond me to see all of the stacked boxes and continued speaking.
"If you ever need any help unboxing," he held his hand in a phone gesture to his ear. "Call me."
"I will, bye bye Namjoon~" I slowly closed the door, sighing softly happily and went to lock the door. I headed up to my bedroom after placing the red velvet cake in the fridge, plugging in my phone and snuggling up in bed. It was already approaching 2am, I had to be out the door by 8am to be introduced to my co-workers and the building I would be working in, somewhat.
Sudden realization, I've never spoke of my occupation. I'm a photographer, with a dream to become a filmmaker... so I've been sent all across the country to develop my skills and work towards it. I record celebrities, I'm /that/ photographer at your wedding, birthdays like sweet 16's, proms.. I'm going to an online college for filmography, I have no time to attend school even if I wanted to.. which I don't.
It's quite upsetting, I've left my family, friends, my /real/ home for this. But I tell myself every single day that it'll one day be worth it... I hope. I'm not sure how much I believe it anymore after all of these years.
Now, this is no time to be sappy. I can feel myself getting more tired by the second, I am not a night owl. Thanks Namjoon for keeping me up. I guess I can't blame him.. he was trying to be nice and busy any other time. I should be appreciative that he even took the time out of his day to greet me, it's been awhile since someone has done that when I've moved and hell, I know I would not have.
Damn... that reminds me.
I never got his number.
He told me, to call him if I ever needed assistance on unpacking but I shut the door. I feel like an asshole, he probably will never talk to me again or say hi whenever we're both getting our mail at 1am! Ugh... I would go over and ask him for it, but I don't want to seem like a creep. He probably already got dressed for work and headed off, I missed my chance with a hot guy. I missed my chance to make a friend.
Whatever, I must be overreacting. Tomorrow, after work. I'll go over to his house and ask him.. yeah. Now I rest.. do what your mother told you, Jin.. just count.
