Chapter 36

Timeskip to about 2 months...
Kion's POV

I can't believe I have this scar on my eye. How will Sage react?

"Kion! We have to take you to Rafiki! This scar isn't well." Fuli says.
"I know. I'm just worried on how Sage will react. I can't let her see me like this."
"Kion, it's a scar, it's not going to go away anytime soon unfortunately. She's going to face you one way or the other. We need to see what Rafiki can do to help." Ono reassures me. He's right.
"I guess you're right. Come on let's go."

We all head towards pride rock where Rafiki was. We arrive and head straight towards him.

"Rafiki! We need your help! It's Kion he needs help!" Bunga exclaims.

Rafiki was with my parents and sister, as well as Sage. I'm so scared to look at her. I don't want her to worry about me. As soon as Bunga reported the news, I watched her bolt her head up towards me and I looked down. I don't want her to see me like this.

"What is the matter Kion?" Rafiki questions.

Still with Sage on my mind, I turn away and refuse to answer.
"Kion? What's wrong son?" My mom asked.

Still, I didn't answer.

"Kion? Why won't you tell us what's bothering you?" My dad questioned.
I sighed and still kept my back towards them.
"It's not that I don't want to tell you, I'm scared."
I felt a paw on my left shoulder. I still didn't bother to turn around.

"Kion? Are you okay? What happened?"
I realized that it was Sage. My heart dropped and started to pick up speed.

"Sage, I don't want you to see me like this." I told her.
"See you like what? You look fine to me but you're acting strange."

She walked in front of me and I panicked.
She lifted up my chin with her paw. Now facing her, the scar was very visible to her. She gasped and took a step back.

"K-Kion, how did you get that scar?!" She asked a little frightened.
Everyone else gasped.
"What? A scar?" Kiara asked.
I told them everything. I told them how Ushari bit me before I defeated Scar.
"This isn't good Kion. You need to be treated right away."
"How can you help him?" Sage asked.
"Come, follow me." We followed Rafiki to his tree where he gave me some purple flowers to help relieve the pain.

"Kion, I'm afraid that there is nothing else that I can do to help, but there is this one place that will help you heal." Rafiki said.
"Where is that?" I asked.
"You must make your journey to the tree of life."
"The tree of life? Where is that?" Bunga questioned.
"The tree of life is very far far far away from here. If you want to get healed, you must make this journey." Rafiki explained.
"Oh and we can stay by your side Kion!"
Bunga exclaimed.
"Yeah, of course we will, we're with you till the very end." Beshte said.
"Thanks guys, but how long will I be there for?"
"Oh for a while. You must come back fully healed. Trust the process Kion."
"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go." I told my team.

I walked over to my mom, dad and sister.

"I will come back healed. I'll miss you guys."
"You'll do just fine son. We believe in you."
My dad reassured me.
"Thanks dad."

I walked over to Kiara and gave her a hug.

"Don't be gone for too long Kion. I'll miss you."
"No promises sis, I'll miss you too."

We smiled at each other and I gave my mom a hug.

"I'll miss you mom."
"Ohh I'll miss you more Kion. Learn something new out there and let us know how it goes when you come back." She nuzzled me and I nodded.

Lastly, I walked over to Sage who had her head down. I don't understand.

"Sage? What's wrong?" I nuzzled close to her.
She looked up at me and had tears in her eyes.

"I'm going to miss you Kion. A lot. I can't bear to be away from you for that long." I wiped her tears for her.
"Just come with me, you don't have to stay away from me."
"Kion I can't, I have to watch Chase, remember?" She sniffles.

"Sage I'm sorry. Just know that I will think of you with every step that I take. I really wish you could come with me."
"I know Kion. I wish I could come with you too, but it's for the best. Heal fast please."

I smiled and laughed a little. "I will do my best for you."

"I love you Kion." She nuzzled closer to me.

"I love you more Sage."

I licked her cheek and smiled at her one last time before the lion guard and I left.

I slowly walked away from her and made my way towards my team.

"Till the pride lands end, lion guard defend!"

We started making our journey towards the tree of life. Ono memorized the path from Rafikki's wall of paintings. We would be following rocks with paintings that match the wall. This is going to be one heck of a journey.

Sage's POV

Right after Kion and the lion guard left, I was devastated. I wouldn't be seeing him for a while. I can't bear to be away from him, I just can't.
"Sage?"

I turned around and saw Kiara walking towards me.
"Oh, hey Kiara."
"Are you okay?"
I sighed and shrugged a little.
"I mean, I should be fine soon. I just wish I was able to go with him, you know? But I can't, I have to watch Chase."
"It's alright Sage, I'll watch him with the help of my mom and dad. Don't worry he will be fine with us, you know you can trust us."
"Woah wait seriously?"
I asked with excitement.
"Of course Sage! You know I got your back for everything."
"Wow Kiara this is great! Thank you, but how do I get there?"
I questioned. I know nothing about the tree of life and I don't know how to get there.

"Here, I have a map. Use it, it will tell you where to go. Then shortly after, you might catch up with the Kion and the guard.
She hands me the map.

"Oh thank you so much Kiara! I'll be back when Kion gets back. I'll see you soon."

"Anytime Sage. Now hurry before they get too far."

I smiled and ran towards my first stop. I'm so glad that I get to be with Kion and the rest of the guard.

"Kion, here I come."
