Katherine sat in a booth beside the window in a small cafe. Skimming through the NewYork Times she sipped on her coffee. Black - as usual. The door bell chimed and she looked up. A young woman with long blonde hair strutted in, past her and behind the 'Staff only' door. A few moments later she came back out, her hair up in a high neat ponytail. Katherine knew the woman would come in today, she did every day. She usually started working at 1 but today she was late. Probably due to the rainfall that happened over the last few hours.

The blonde smiled at a customer and chatted kindly with him, probably about the weather Katherine thought. Then she refilled his cup with more coffee and went on to the next booth. Katherine went back to skimming through her newspaper, pretending not to watch the other woman. She was suddenly interested in an article and read it quite intensely. She didn't hear the person beside her until she cleared her throat. She looked up and came face to face with the blonde.

"Pardon?" Katherine asked perplexed. She wasn't expecting to be talking to her today. Or any day for that matter.

"I noticed your cup is empty so I was asking if you'd like more coffee?" The blonde asked with a small smile on her lips while holding a pot of coffee. She was amused that Katherine didn't hear her.

"Oh," Katherine mouthed.

She took a moment to realize what the woman had said and looked at her now empty cup. She wasn't aware that she had already finished it. She looked at the blonde and at her cup and then at the blonde again. She wondered if she should just nod and not make a fool out of herself by saying something insensible. Or she could just ignore her and go on with reading her boring daily news. But that would be rude, wouldn't it? She opted for just nodding to get it over with. She wasn't the type to make small talk even though she hoped to talk to the younger woman for a few days now.  She ought to say something, aynthing. She couldn't just not answer and be rude to her before their first conversation even started.

She must have taken ages to decide because the blonde smiled again, the curve of her lip going upward. She held out her pot again, her hand on her hip.

"So ... coffee?"
