"Casey!"

I was too busy studying the flickering orange flames as they danced wildly against each other, throwing sparks a few centimeters away to light up the dark, when I heard my name being called. I wrapped my arms around my bare shoulders as another slight breeze cast my way from the dark, vast ocean behind the bonfire. The log beneath me rolled slightly as I turned to find a girl seated next to me.

She parted her hazel colored hair down to one side as she shivered slightly. "It's really cold near the shoreline, even at Jake's house; unbelievable! It's October for goodness sake, not Winter. This shit weather. . ."

I tuned out as I twisted my body slightly to look over my shoulder. Sure enough, I found the same faces making way from the opening that was surrounded by woods, some unfamiliar faces, and there was CC, it was short for Christian Coma, he was checking up on the beer supply, making sure there was enough for everybody, and enough for seconds. I heard a pop next to me after a barely audible sizzle sound and turned to look at my friend. "You're drinking? Since when?"

She took a long gulp as she let out a sigh, shrugging after she showcased her usual smile. "It's the new Nuvo one. I'm tryna' be bolder." She offered her can toward me.

I shook my head. "You know I don't drink that, only whiskey." I responded quietly as a noise of a girly shriek followed right after. It was then mixed with a guy's laughter. My eyes moved up to a few feet in front of us, where I saw the source of the noise: a couple, the guy swinging the girl in his arms. I studied them for a while before my heart sank and I quickly tore my eyes away from them, down onto my legs, which were stretched out before me. They looked orange due to the lighting of the fire, but I guess that's what tan skin did to you.

I guessed Rachel noticed my reaction because she then said, "I know you don't. Just like you don't drink anything else other than whiskey either," she tapped her fingers against the shell of the can. She let out a sigh. "You can't cut yourself off from the world just because of one person."

I was about to object saying she had no idea what I was feeling and that her assumption of my previous action was inaccurate, but then I stopped because even I knew that I couldn't hide it. Everybody knew.

Her voice lowered. "I know you and Andy were a big thing, hell, everyone knew. But we're here for you, just because he didn't show up today doesn't mean he hates you." she placed her hand on my shoulder. "I just hate seeing you not do the things that you once used to just because he's not here."

Well, that was a big slap to the face. But I knew she was only trying to help. Andy was part of a band; Black Veil Brides. We are together. "You're a strong girl, Casey. And way too young to just give up, or go on break. Life's too short, as Ashley says." Ashley was her boyfriend, one very intellectual and cool man.

I nodded. "I know, I'm fine." I gave her a warry smile. "I promise."

Followed after this, music started to blare out the speakers, filling the entire area of the beach with the accomplished bonfire/teenage gathering look.

"I don't believe you one bit, Case. C'mon, it's your birthday. But just know that if I were dating you, I wouldn't have left. And you know how much of an asshole I am." She giggled as she took another sip from the beer. "Man, this shit is so gross. I'm going to see if there's actual food here." She got up and gave me a sympathetic head pat, ruffling the top of my brunette fading into red hair.

I stifled in a small laugh as I gathered my hair together, watching the flames do their alluring dance once again.

. . .

Dance was usually my thing, since birth. I took classes down at the start of nine at ICON for about four years. I quit at thirteen but came back two years later, then i quit again and joined Black Veil Brides, thats how i met Andy, CC, Ashley, Jake, and Jinxx. I quit though. Rachel lived through half of it with me, considering we met in seventh grade. So I'm assuming I let down a couple people when Rachel gave me a disappointing look from across the bonfire as I watched the bodies dancing, my back plastered to the texture of Jake's beach house.

I watched as my friends and old bandmates created memories in front of me. Whether it was dancing, getting picked up by a guy, the band, even getting rejected or groaning in disgust as sticky marshmallow goo stuck onto their fingers, they were happy. At least, momentarily.

I wondered if I'd ever be happy again.

I knew that eventually down the road, I would be. But when would that time come? Andy's unannounced departure broke me. I rarely felt like eating, rarely felt like dancing, singing, and playing guitar. But what I did feel was rage.

However, it's my birthday and i have to live it with happiness. Or atleast try.

Finding out that your boyfriend moved to another state from his bandmates was kind of disappointing. I felt tears pricking the corner of my eyes. Maybe that's what I needed too, to move out of state. Away from the same people, the same routine, the same memories that obstructed me from letting go.

Just as I thought I'd better get going and spill my tears in the car with the company of myself and myself only, I felt a hand clasp my mouth and then my body was dragged back.
