Do you remember that night, when we first met? Yeah, I do too. We were two people, completely different, forced to converse with one another through the curse of speed dating. It was not a burden to converse with you and your friend, but it was not enjoyable either. I did not care about you that night. I bet you did not care about me, either. I never even remembered your name, I bet you never remembered mine too.
It was January 11th, a Friday. I lied to my parents and told them I'd carpool with my classmate to finish a project. I told them I would not be done until late. The truth was, I was off to a party. A party to meet boys and to meet up with him, your classmate and a boy who liked me that time. A soiree is what people referred it to be, coming from an exclusive for girls school, it was a big deal, most especially for a high school freshman.
I saw your incredibly tall figure but I didn't know you. But I knew your friend because everyone knew him. He was the only boy everyone looked forward to meeting, including me. He had the handsomest face with spiky brown hair and dark brown eyes, a tall and masculine figure and the most perfect voice everyone is in love with. He sang that night too, and I wanted to meet him really badly during the speed dating game.
You sat at the exclusive table for the cool kids while I was situated with the normal ones. Everyone knew your tall and average features but nobody cared about your deep brown eyes and tan skin. You were only known because you were his friend. During the speed dating, I focused mainly on your friend while you both talked with me, arms wrapped around one another. Cute. If I remember correctly, I shook your hand too after shaking his, but I didn't have a care that I did.
I never took notice of you, though. I never minded you. You were part of the cool crowd but I never cared that you were, nobody did actually. We knew you as the boy who is best friends with the other boy whom everyone wanted to be noticed by, most of us never even remembered your name.
Later that night, I was invited by my classmate who belonged in your social class to hang upstairs in her room, along with the other people who belonged in your social class and a few of my friends. All of you teased me too because of him, the boy who liked me that time. I didn't like it but I had to play the good sport because everyone was there.
I didn't mind you at those moments either but I vaguely remember you speaking to me, teasing me and him, the boy whom I've said liked me that time.
Nobody knew and nobody would have guessed, that everyone in the room - the boy everyone liked, the boy who liked me, the girl who brought us together, everyone else whom I thought mattered, - would all disappear and not matter anymore, at least to me.
