Jon's pov
I woke up the next day on the couch, wishing that everything that happened yesterday was just a dream but I know that it wasn't. "Oh good. You're up," Brian said handing me a plate of food.
"Thanks, Brian."
"You're welcome. Mikey and Leo are outback on the swing set."
"Will you um talk to her with me after I eat?" He nodded.
"Carter is still sleeping, so that'd be perfect. I don't want him finding out."
I smiled slightly and started to eat. "I know it's probably not the best, but I tried."
"No, it's pretty good."
"Thanks, Jon," he said smiling. I finished eating and put my plate in the sink. "You ready?"
"Ye-yeah." He turned me to face him.
"It's gonna be okay. You need to breathe and stay calm, okay?" I nodded as he called Mikey inside. Mikey walked inside and sat down on the couch.
"We need to talk."
"About what?" I looked at Brian. I didn't know how to say it.
"Mikey, can I see your arms?" Brian asked. She froze, but nodded slowly. She lifted her sleeves and I broke. I felt tears in my eyes.
"Mikey, why?" I asked shakily.
"I-I fe-felt like I-I made Ca-Carter feel wo-worse." Brian hugged her.
"Oh my god. Mikey, no. I never wanted you to hear those words, but I knew something would be said eventually. You did absolutely nothing wrong, but this," Brian said gesturing to her cuts, "is going to drive him crazy. He will obsess over this."
"I-I'm s-s-sorry."
"Don't apologize, kiddo. You did nothing wrong," I said hugging her. She hugged me back.
"D-dad?"
"Yeah?"
"I-I love y-you."
"I love you too, Mikey. More than you'll ever know."
"Th-this isn't th-the first ti-time I've do-done this."
"What?" I asked. My heart was breaking, piece by piece.
"I-I get a lot o-of ha-hate on my vi-videos." She looked at the ground.
"Mikey, please don't ever cut again. We all love you way too much and I don't want to lose you." I was crying by now.
"I-I pr-promise."
"I love you so much."
"I love you too." I hugged her and kissed the top of her head. She fixed her sleeves as Leo walked in.
"Mum, are you okay?"
"I'm fine, L." She smiled slightly.
"Are you sad?"
"Just a little but I'll be okay."
"No be sad," Leo said hugging Mikey. "I love you mommy."
"I love you too, Leo." She put him on her lap and hugged him. Carter slowly walked downstairs.
"G-good m-morning, M-M-Mikey," he said slowly.
"Carter, it's okay," Brian said.
"Hey, Carter."
"M-m-morning, Leo."
"Morning Dad." Carter froze for a moment and then smiled. He walked over to Mikey and sat beside her. He kissed her cheek. She smiled as Leo climbed over to sit in Carter's lap. Carter tensed up before calming down and hugging Leo. Leo hugged him back.
"I-I-I l-love you, L-Leo."
"I love you too, Dad."
"M-Mikey, w-we need t-t-to t-talk."
"O-okay."
"I-I n-need to e-e-exp-plain." She nodded. "A-alone." She got up, handed me Leo, and grabbed his hand as they went upstairs.
"You think he's talking about...?" I asked Brian.
"Probably." I sighed.
"Leo, why don't you go wake uncle toonz up." He nodded and ran upstairs. "Want to talk about it?" Brian nodded, putting his head in his hands. I pulled him next to me on the couch.
"J-Jon?"
"Yes?"
"I- thank you."
"For what?"
"Caring," he said looking at me with teary eyes.
"Brian, I'll always care." He gave me a small smile.
"I want Carter to get better and I hate that Mikey felt like she made things worse because she didn't. I hope he explains what happened because she needs to know it's not her fault that happened. I mean, Carter watched his mom," he started crying, "kill my brother. He tried to save him, but Carter was young and Jordan was...shot in the fucking chest." He put his head in his hands and cried harder. I hugged him. He hugged me tight.
"It's okay, Brian."
"But it's not. I promised Jordan that I'd take care of Carter, but I feel like I'm not doing good enough."
"Brian, I don't ever want to hear you say that again. You are doing good enough. No matter how bad a situation is, you're trying your best." He nodded.
"I lost everything after Jordan was killed. I mean, I got a kid and I love Carter with every fiber of my being. But my family...." He looked down.
"Well, you have a new family."
"A much better one now. My fucking aunt told me to get rid of him. She would always say how he was such a nuisance and didn't have anything wrong with him. How Jordan dying didn't make Carter the way he is. How I'm stupid for taking him in. How I'm stupid for believing that Carter is worth it. He shut down and, well you remember how he was, she looked at him on Thanksgiving and told him that he couldn't have any cake unless he ate an entire plate of food. She told me I was an idiot for letting him have cake whenever he asked for it, but what was I supposed to do? That was all I could get him to eat! Anyways, we were sitting at the table. It was me, Carter, my mom and dad, my aunt, my uncle, and my three cousins. Carter was about 14 or 15 and he was going through a period of not eating. I never push him to eat, but I encourage it. I was talking to him, asking if he wanted anything to eat and he said he wanted cake. I said okay we can get you a slice when we get home and he was content with that. My uncle, from the other end of the table, asked why I was going to let him have cake before eating actual food. I simply answered, because it's what he wants to eat and I am fine with that. My aunt then said I babied him too much and that he needed to do things for himself. Well, Carter snapped and I mean snapped. He started screaming at her and calling her names. His exact words were: 'How the fuck would you know what goes on in our goddamn house. I could eat a whole fucking buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and your fat ass wouldn't know. You wanna fucking know why? You don't give two shits about me or my dad. You just want your perfect fucking family to kiss your ass and act all high and mighty. No, maybe I shouldn't have so much fucking cake but it's what I want to eat. I lost my fucking father and you did not once ask my dad if he needed any help. You are a cock juggling thunder cunt and I don't have time for your bullshit.'" Brian laughed slightly.
"Heh wow."
"Carter has no chill. I'm just scared."
"Yeah."
"Jon, will you ever leave me?"
"No."
"Promise," he said barely above a whisper.
"I promise." He hugged me and I hugged him back.
"Thank you, Jon."
"No problem, Brian." While we were hugging, Luke and Leo came downstairs.
"Are you guys dating?" Leo asked.
Brian and I looked at each other for a moment. "Well?"
"N-no we're not, Leo. Brian just needed a hug."
"Okay." He went to the kitchen and Luke started laughing.
"Why are you laughing?"
"A 5 year old basically asked if you were gay."
"Well, w-we're not so," Brian said.
"Still funny." Brian nodded and laughed. I chuckled slightly. Mikey and Carter came back downstairs.
"Where's Leo?"
"Kitchen. He thinks we're gay," I said motioning to Brian and I.
"I mean that's not surprising," Mikey said laughing. Leo walked back in with a juice box.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Brian asked.
"How do I say this....you both give off a very gay vibe." We both pressed our lips, nodded, then laughed. "They did that in sync." Carter winked at Brian then raised his eyebrows. He wrapped his arm around Mikey's waist.
"You guys are so gay."
"Shuch up."
"Fine. Don't ask my dad how he feels or anything," Carter said walking into the kitchen. I got a text from Tyler asking if I was going to record.
"Shit! I got to record." I ran upstairs. I got online and put my headphones on.
"Did you forget Brian?"
"Shit!" I texted Brian.
"Wow, Jon. Good job," Tyler said laughing.
"How the hell did you forget me, Jon? We were literally just together," Brian said hopping online.
"Sorry..."
"Wait, you guys are together?" Tyler asked. I sighed as I fixed my teddy bear that sits on my computer.
"No, Tyler. We were on the couch," Brian said quietly. I turned on some music while I recorded. After we finished recording, there was a knock on my door.
"Come in." Carter walked in.
"I gotta talk to you."
"What's up?"
"Sorry about earlier. My dad and I have talked a lot and well you come up a lot. Especially when he gets to talking. He always talks about you."
"O-oh."
"Yeah. He's always told me how amazing you are. He'll sit there and it's 'Jon has always been there, Jon's so amazing, he helped me whenever I needed it' and it's honestly so awesome to see him happy. I knew that I was the reason he was struggling for a while," Carter said messing with his sleeves.
"Carter, don't feel like it's your fault. He'll do anything for you."
"That's his problem. He shouldn't baby me so much. That's why I am the way I am," he said, reminding me of Brian and I's conversation earlier. I sighed. "I've always been a nuisance but he's stuck with me. You know, you're the reason he's alive."
"What?" Carter nodded.
"A few years back, things were really bad. I was in and out of mental institutions and Dad didn't know what to do. He got so depressed that he would....cut himself," he mumbled. "You were what kept him going."
"Brian Michael Hanby!"
"Ye-yes, J-Jon?" Brian asked walking through the door.
"Chair now!" Brian walked over and sat in the chair. Carter left the room.
"Tell me it's not true."
"Wh-what's not t-true?" he asked nervously. I had tears in my eyes at this point.
"Tell me it's not true that you've cut." He looked down and started crying. I hugged him.
"I'm s-sorry, J-Jon." He hugged me back and cried into my shoulder.
"Just don't do it again." He leaned back and pulled up his sleeve.
"L-last n-night," he whimpered.
"Pl-please stop." I was crying now. All he did was cry and nod. I wiped my eyes.
"I'm sorry."
"Just don't do it again." He wrapped his arms around my neck and hugged me. I hugged him back.
"I know Carter told you," he said quietly.
"Ye-yeah." He nodded.
"What else did he tell you?"
"How you always tell him about me." Brian's eyes widened and he blushed. I pull my sleeves over my hands. "Don't be embarrassed...I talk about you to Luke." I put my hands over my face.
"Wh-what?" I shook my head. "You talk about me?" he asked blushing.
"Yes." I was still hiding my face. He moved my hands and looked at me with a huge smile. My face was red with embarrassment.
"Why you so red?"
"No reason."
"Jon," he whined.
"Cause I'm embarrassed." I bit my lip.
"Why are you embarrassed. My son just told you that I talk about you all the time." I flipped him off, putting my hood up and pulling the strings so he couldn't see my face. He pouted. "Jon."
"What?"
"Take your hood off."
"No."
"Please." I took off my hood and put my hand over my mouth. "What's the matter?"
"Nothing." He stared at me, looking me up and down. "What?"
"N-nothing," he said tugging on his sleeve.
"Tell me." He mumbled something I couldn't quite understand. I sighed and turned my chair around looking at my blank computer screen. I heard him whine. I don't do anything.
"Y-you're cute, you know, when you bl-blush." My face got red again as he spun the chair back around to face him. "See," he said pointing to my face. "You're so fucking cute."
"Stop it."
"No."
"Why?"
"I don't want to."
"Please, Brian."
"Why?" I got quiet. "I'm sorry," he said quietly.
"It's not because of you..."
"Then why?"
"The last person I dated..." I said quietly. He hugged me.
"I'm sorry, Jon."
"Not your fault I dated them."
"But it still makes me sad." I smiled slightly. "We need to cheer you up."
"How?" He shrugged.
"What do you want to do?"
"I don't know."
"Wanna watch movies?"
"No."
"Wanna play a game?"
"What game?" He shrugged.
"I didn't really get that far."
"Good job, Brian." He stuck his tongue out at me. "Keep on." He scrunched his nose and stuck his tongue out again. "That all you do with that?" He sunk down in the chair hiding his face. I smirked. I could see him blushing through his hands. I laughed a little.
"Why you laughing?"
"Because I can."
"Jon," he whined.
"What?"
"Why would you say something like that?" he asked blushing.
"I told you to keep on."
"I was just doing what you said," he said messing with his sleeves. I froze a bit remembering how I said that a lot to them and still got yelled at. "You okay?" he asked placing his hand on my shoulder.
"Ye-yeah I'm fine."
"You want to talk about it?"
"No." He nodded.
"Okay. I won't push you, but I'm always here." I nodded. We sat there, silent for a moment. "So what are we doing?" He shrugged.
"What do you wanna do?"
"I don't fucking know." He laughed.
"That doesn't help."
"Sorry." We heard a loud crash from downstairs. We got up and ran downstairs. Carter was standing in the kitchen, surrounded by glass.
"I-I'm sorry. I dropped it. I-I was try-trying to put dishes a-away to help."
"It's okay. Stay there so we can get it up you don't have shoes on," I said as I got a broom from the closet. He nodded. I started sweeping and, as soon as I finished, Brian walked over to Carter and started checking him. I threw the glass away.
"Are you okay, Carter?"
"Yeah I'm fine."
"Okay."
"Are you guys okay?"
"Yes."
"You sure? You both look like you've been crying."
"We're fine." He nodded.
"Mikey and Leo are outback."
"Okay." Carter walked out the back door.
"So....Brian."
"Y-yes, Jon?"
"I um..."
"What? You can tell me."
"Ilikeyou."
"Y-you do?"
"Ye-yeah."
"I-I like you too, Jon."
"Re-really?" He blushed and nodded.
I blushed and quickly kissed his cheek. His eyes widened and he touched his cheek before blushing. I smiled. He pulled me into a tight hug, kissing my cheek. My whole face looked like a tomato.
"Hey! That's my color," he said pointing to my cheeks.
"Sh-shuch up." He laughed.
"Wait, isn't this a bit odd?"
"What?"
"Our children are dating and then...oh well."
"Meh."
"They support us so." I nodded. He hugged me once again and wrapped his arms around my neck. I wrapped mine around his waist. He kissed my cheek again.
"Aww look how cute," Mikey said walking in carrying Leo.
"I know he is," Brian said. I hid my face in Brian's chest. Leo laughed.
"You guys are gay!" he said excitedly.
"Please tell me someone recorded that?"
"Of course I did, baby girl. I knew this was gonna happen," Carter said walking over to us. She smiled.
"So what now?"
"You go on a date duh," Leo said.
"You've got it all planned huh?" I asked.
"Let me pick your outfits." Mikey put him down as he walked to our rooms. We looked at Mikey.
"What?"
"We just... how...never mind."
"No tell me."
"We just got together. How do you have this planned?"
"I didn't plan anything."
"Mikey."
"I didn't. I swear." We nodded. She sighed.
"So what are we doing today?"
"Don't know."
"I'm hungry," Carter said.
"What do you want?"
"Mikey." Our eyes widened. "What? No, I mean, not now. I meant ask her what she wants."
"Uh I'll just go cook something." She went in the kitchen. Carter followed her.
"Wow," Brian said.
"That got really awkward."
"I wish I could say it was because he's a dude, but it's his communication skills. They are not up to par, but they've improved."
"Yeah."
"What should we do?"
"I don't know." Brian went to say something, but stopped himself. "What?"
"N-nothing, Jon."
"Please tell me."
"I just-I.."
"You can tell me." He walked over to me and pecked my lips. I smiled.
"So about that date..."
"I would love to." He blushed.
"Go get ready." I nodded and headed upstairs. I got dressed and a few minutes later there was a knock on my door.
"Come in."
"You ready?" Brian asked walking in.
"Yeah."
"You look great. Where do you want to go?"
"Anywhere." He nodded and we walked downstairs.
"Carter! Mikey!"
"They're in the kitchen. They've been pretty quiet," Luke said while him and Leo watched Doctor who. Brian walked into the kitchen and came back out.
"Luke, just... we'll be back," Brian said opening the door for me.
"Have fun." I flipped him off before walking out the door with Brian.
