Aiden jumped off a building......Again.
The fall was exciting, the speed, weightlessness, and the impending feeling of death all brought his adrenaline to a high. With every second, the ground got closer; Aiden tsked dissatisfied before uttering what sounded like gibberish, which slowed his descent into a soft glide, like a feather in the breeze. He landed just as softly, shaking his head upset, "It still didn't work Daniel." he said frustrated. "Of course it didn't, because that's not what's considered a daring feat...... At least, not for you." Daniel replied.
Well then what is? What's the point of arbitrary rules of worthiness? And who am I trying to impress?
All are very fair questions, but they have still remained unanswered. If I were to rephrase them in your logical terms, there's a correlation between daring feats, usually involving self sacrifice, and attaining wings. This correlation also appears to be causation, but there is no absolute proof to what exactly causes it.
So am I just stuck trying any random self sacrificing act to get wings?
I don't think it's a realistic goal to achieve, rather an added benefit of growth and maturity. Remember there's still a need for you to train, you're still lacking in many aspects.
You still haven't told me why I am training.
All things in due time, just consider yourself lucky you've never had a real reason to use your powers."
Aiden released a sigh then looked back at Daniel, a large figure cladded in grey armor with a symbol of scales at the center with nothing showing of what's truly inside except for his eyes, a piercing blue. He's indistinguishable from any human in armor save for the wings attached to his back one white on Daniel's left the other black on his right.
A few days may have passed since Aiden first came across his guardian angel, but he's still in awe of Daniel's appearance. "Fine, I'll start taking my training more seriously. But you have to teach me more than just those magic words because I can barely stay awake in an English class, let alone a class with words that sound like I belong on a Vegas stage with a plastic wand." Aiden said. Daniel nodded, "Very well, we'll begin your practice at dawn, till then stop jumping off buildings." And with that advice, Daniel blinked out of existence. Aiden tsked, dawn was in two hours; he began heading to one of his favorite spots in the city, the top of a radio tower.
The lights of the city shone underneath him as he enjoyed the view, along with the cool night air and the peace and quiet, "Penny for your thoughts?" a voice behind him said. Aiden turned around and gave a chuckle. Behind him with black hair, pale skin and sporting a raised eyebrow was Aiden's closest friend Collin Strauss, "What on earth are you doing here Collin?" he asked. "You wouldn't answer your phone so I figured that either the man who never sleeps is asleep, or you're up here in your favorite spot." Replied Collin, as he got closer and stood next to Aiden and observed the view, "Just like always a blanket of orange lights with no new details to spice things up." He said jokingly.
It's not the lights that makes this place the best view.
Is it the company?
Hardly, hah, it's the height, almost as high as that Delta Corp. building, but they still won't let me up to their roof..... Well willingly.
What's with you and heights recently anyways? You've never had this fixation before.
You could say I'm jealous of all the birds flying about.
If you just want to be closer to birds i know a good fried chicken place a few blocks from here.........."
Aiden gave an eye roll, "I would push you if I could."
