Equinox (Warriors Cats Fanfiction)

Chapter 2

   Sunpaw padded into the FrostClan camp, carrying a large squirrel with the two other apprentices Bouncepaw and Shadepaw following her. They had just come back from hunting because recently their mentors hadn’t gone out to train with them. Sunpaw padded over to the fresh-kill pile and dropped the squirrel, followed quickly by Bouncepaw and Shadepaw who were now arguing. She looked up to try and end the fight, but stopped because she could see Shadowtail watching her silently. As soon as he saw that she had noticed, he glanced down again quickly. Sunpaw tilted her head slightly and wondered why he had been watching when she heard Ashstar yowl, “Let all cats gather by Tallrock for a clan meeting!” Sunpaw pushed the thought of Shadowtail away and trotted towards the middle of camp where Ashstar and the deputy, Hazelrise, were standing.
    Sunpaw sat near the front of the gathering cats and waited curiously for the meeting to start. ‘What is this meeting about? Are we having more apprentices?’ She asked herself as the rest of the clan gathered in front of Tallrock. “Today we have several ceremonies to perform, so first off, some of our apprentices are ready to become full-fledged warriors of FrostClan.” Sunpaw looked up in surprise. Out of the corner of her eyes she could see that Bouncepaw and Shadepaw were also. She looked back at Ashstar and quietly waited for him to finish.
    “Sunpaw, Bouncepaw, and Shadepaw. You have all taken the time to learn how to be a great warrior of FrostClan, so now I give each of you your warrior name. Shadepaw, by the power of our warrior ancestors, I give you the name you shall be known by as long as you live the life of a warrior. Your new name shall be Shadestorm for your quick temperament.” Ashstar gave a small nod to Shadestorm then turned to Bouncepaw. “Bouncepaw, by the power of our warrior ancestors, I give you the name you shall be known by as long as you live the life of a warrior. Your new name shall be Bouncefoot for your seemingly endless energy.” Sunpaw looked over at Bouncefoot and Shadestorm excitedly and smiled. She was happy her friends and she almost forgot that she was also getting her warrior name. She turned her head again to see Ashstar standing in front of her. “Sunpaw, by the power of our warrior ancestors, I give you the name you shall be known by as long as you live the life of a warrior. Your new name shall be Sunheart for your optimistic and bright personality.”
    Ashstar stepped back and looked up at all of the clan. “Tonight, at the gathering of the full moon, these three cats will join the other clans at Star Field as new warriors of FrostClan.” Ashstar then waved his tail to dismiss the clan, signaling the meeting was over.
    Sunheart, Bouncefoot, and Shadestorm stayed at the front of the clearing, happily discussing their warrior ceremonies. “I can’t believe it! We’re warriors!” Bouncefoot yowled. Right at that moment Shadowtail padded up. “Congratulations you three! Now we can go on patrol together!” Sunheart smiled as he said this and flicked her ears as Berrykit, Rosekit, and Heavykit bounced up as well. “No fair! I want to be a warrior!” Berrykit whined. “Me two!” The other two chorused behind him. “Soon, you three. How old are you now?” Sunheart asked.  “We’re four moons Sunheart!” Rosekit piped up from behind Berrykit. “See, you only have two more moons until you’re apprenticed,” Sunheart mewed. “I just hope you don’t get Shadestorm and Bouncefoot as mentors.” She added in a whisper to the three kits, who giggled. “Ok, Sunheart. We’ll wait a couple more moons.” The kits padded off together whispering about something she assumed to be their future apprentice ceremonies.
    “That was great Sunheart! How’d you know what to say to the kits?” Sunheart looked over and shrugged at Shadowtail’s question. “Well, now that you’re a warrior, you need to find a nest of your own in the warrior’s den. Want any help?” The gray tom asked. Sunheart nodded, “Thanks Shadowtail. I could use some help getting the best nest before those two.” She said flicking her tail over at Bouncefoot and Shadestorm who were now arguing over something again. She stood and Shadowtail followed. “Come on then Sunheart.” Sunheart followed Shadowtail towards the warrior’s den.
