Cross breathed slowly, letting the pain in her back ease.
"You should be good in a few days," Luma said. "Stop overstraining your back. It's not helping the healing process."
"I can't be down for much longer," Cross grunted. "It's not in my nature to be still." Nina patted her on the head. Cross stiffened but she ignored her.
"You look like that kind of girl," Nina said.
"She also looks like the kind of girl who wouldn't like being touched," Luma added. "Get off her Nina." Cross stared into the silence for a while before her curiosity got the better of her.
"Are you two...?"
"She's my sister," Luma explained.
"Oh." Luma studied her with those unsettling eyes of hers before chuckling slightly.
"I have a feeling you'll turn out to be a curious one. Too bad our Prince doesn't like questions."
"Unless he's the one asking them?" Nina added.
"Speaking of which when is he gonna show up? It's almost nightfall."
"Well, you know Prince Nightmare. Night is everything to him." Cross felt her eyes begin to droop and she yawned. "Hey, Cross," Nina interrupted her thoughts. "We'll be going for a bit. The windows and doors are locked so don't bother trying to run." Cross closed her eyes and smiled.
"Not gonna be a problem."
"Its almost nightfall," Lust observed from her place at the table. They had all gathered together to enjoy a nice meal of bread and butter and tension.
"Lust, there's no need to be so mean," Blue cried.
"I don't think I was being mean Blue. This is our house."
"She's right," Horror said. "I did promise we'd be leaving around this time."
"Aww I was having fun," Dust whined.
"I promised, sorry Dust."
"Well, are you going?"
"Lust!" Suddenly a knock came from the door and they all jumped.
"An intruder?" Dust asked.
"Yes, because intruders knock," Horror said sarcastically. Lust stood up to answer the door. Horror and Dust moved to protest but Blue smiled reassuringly at them.
"Don't worry, she'll be ok." Lust opened the door and nearly stumbled from surprise.
"Geno!"
"Ok now I know you're messing with me," Ink said sceptically. She stared at the castle looming in front of her. "What are we doing her- Hey!" Error was ignoring her and walking towards the castle. "Error!" Error continued to ignore her and walked into the castle like it was his home. There were no guards to stop him anyway but Ink was still shocked. They walked through expensive-looking halls and rooms. Ink followed close behind Error, trying not to get lost. They finally stopped in front of an extravagant looking door with apples emblazoned on it.
"Hey Ink," Error began.
"Huh? What?" She asked.
"Try not to freak out." He opened the door to reveal a room with two small beds inside. A man was hunched against the wall between the beds, staring at nothing. "Hey, Nightmare." The man looked up and smiled.
"Hey there Error, been a while," He said. "Who's the girl?"
"...Error what's going on?" Ink asked.
"This is Ink," Error replied. "She's been travelling with me. We were in town when the attack happened. How are you doing?" The man called Nightmare let out a humourless laugh.
"They got Dream." Error moved forward and knelt before him.
"So I was right to come here."
"I don't know, it's your life."
"Well what were you planning to do?"
"Go after her of course."
"Typical."
"Error?" Ink interrupted uncertainly.
"Well, are you gonna introduce us properly or not Error?" Nightmare asked. Error smiled slightly.
"Ink this is Prince Nightmare. An old friend of mine." Ink stared at them for a moment.
"Wait what?"
Dream felt very drowsy. She'd been drifting in and out of sleep since she'd talked to Kaya and she couldn't seem to get herself up. She felt weak in the darkness.
"She's not looking too good, Kaya," A voice broke through her daze. "Shouldn't we let her outside?"
"Not yet," Apparently Kaya answered. "We need her like this for a few more days."
"Alliah's right, it's only been a day," Another voice added. "She might die."
"She won't."
"I might," Dream thought groggily.
