Gally, of course, isn't known for being nice. But you were one of the only ones to see his nice side. You came up into the Glade a month after he did, he showed you around, made you feel at home. With him, you felt safe. You joined the builders, working with him every day. When he would yell at the other boys fro messing up, he would help you when you messed up and show you how to do it better. One night 4 months after you had arrived in the Glade Gally woke you up in the middle of the night. He burst into your room, startling you from your sleep. When you asked him what was going on he didn't say a word, he simply dragged you out of bed and out into the woods. He only started to talk after he had brought you to the edge. He talked so fast, he was nervous. He'd been up all night thinking, he couldn't get you off his mind. He rambled on and on about he didn't understand why he felt so awkward all the sudden, why he was so nervous, why he felt that way. Without warning you smashed your lips onto his, taking him completely off guard. He sank into the kiss, soaking up every second of it. This, of course, is what you both had been dancing around for months but then it had all finally come out. You both pulled away, breathless.
"I feel the same way." You murmured with a chuckle.
Gally laughed. Actually laughed. It was the best sound, it filled your ears like a perfect melody. That melody became the theme song of your life, the tune you skipped to. Every day, you tried your hardest to make him laugh and every day he did, but only with you. That made it even more special, you were the only one who could make him laugh, the only one to calm him down. You miss that sound
Things were tough when he got stung. He screamed in pain every second of the day as he went through the changing. You stayed by his side, holding his hand when you could. You have several scars from times he scratched you in his madness, but it was all worth it. The day finally came when he opened his eyes, no longer in pain. His eyes met yours and he smiled. You remember the joy that bubbled up inside of you, you thought you would burst. You wrapped him in a gentle hug, holding him close and savoring every second of him being himself. Things only got worse. Whatever he saw in the changing haunted him and followed him wherever he went. He started lashing out at the other Gladers, screaming at them for no real reason. He also became more violent. That's where the fight circle started. He needed a way to fight without actually harming a friend. There were times when you had to break apart arguments where you ended up taking the brunt of Gally's rage. At the end of his rants, he would take one look at your face and soften, pulling you into an apologetic hug.
Everyone wondered why you would stay with him when he treated you so poorly. You explained to them, it was all about point of view. In your point of view, you see a hurting haunted boy who needs love and care. When he lashes out at you, he's not himself and you know it. So you stuck with him, help him through his anger.
Then Thomas showed up. Everything was about Thomas.
"Thomas is evil. Thomas should be banished. Thomas is a traitor. Thomas is out to kill us."
On and on he continued about his hatred of Thomas. He bullied and threatened Thomas, making the poor boy's already horrible experience even worse. One day you went to Thomas to explain what happened to Gally, why he was the way he was. Gally took one look at you with Thomas and was thrown into a tyrant. He screamed at you, saying you were a traitor, taking the side of the enemy. Then he punched Thomas square in the face. Thomas fell to the ground, knocked out cold leaving you to the mercy of Gally's rage. He backed you into a tree spitting words of hatred. He only stopped when Alby jumped between the two of you. Alby then had to drag Gally to the slammer. You stayed at the tree. You couldn't move, you had never expected him to lash out at you like that. You never thought it would get this bad.
In the middle of the night, you snuck out to the slammer to see him. He was huddled in the corner, his whole body trembling with his sobs. You knocked on the door, grabbing his attention. His head shot up so he could meet your gaze with his tear-filled eyes. Guilt stained his face. He slowly got up and walked over to the door. You reached your hands through the bars and he took your hand in his. The heat and comfort of his fingers entwined with yours allowed you to relax. He apologized over and over, begging for forgiveness. Over and over you told him it was ok, that you understood. For the rest of the night, you stayed with him, sleeping with your back against the door the same as he did. In the morning Alby came to get Gally for a Gathering about his punishment. He sighed at the sight of you sleeping by the door. Gently, he woke you up and assured you that Gally would be fine. Alby would make sure that he wouldn't be banished. You thanked him, then proceeded to wait anxiously outside the door for the Gathering to end. Without warning, the Greenie alarm blared throughout the Glade. You jumped to your feet and ran over to the box, soon joined by the other Gladers. Gally joined you at the edge, slipping his hand into yours. When the box finished rising, he assisted Newt in opening the grate. Newt jumped down into the box and the three boys went silent.
