There was a small scream interrupting the morning air. As Queen Florence was giving birth to a girl. King Lester was holding his wife's tender hands as she started to cry and whimper. They had gone through a lot to get to this point.
Queen Florence was 4 months into her pregnancy as she had gotten stabbed in the chest. There were intruders in the castle. They were there to steal from the family and the kingdom. So the Queen was told to stay where she was. One of them got lost in the castle and found themselves in the royal bedroom. The queen was sleeping in the bed holding her pregnant belly and humming softly to it quite sleepily. The intruder looked upon her with sadness in their eyes as the coiled back their arm. They had a thought running through their head to kidnap the Queen. If they kidnapped the queen they could sell her off for more riches in the kingdom. The intruder's arm sprang forward. The blade was facing toward the intruder to no kill the queen. The large brass doors creaked as they flung open to reveal the king red with rage towards them. The intruder jumped as the knife was close to the queen. The knife went into the belly of the queen. She screamed in pain as the only thought that went through the Queen was is my child going to be okay.
The king grabbed the intruder by the neck. His teeth clenched with the strength of his rage. The king tossed the intruder down upon the ground. The intruder's head was broken upon the ground as the blood stained the carpet near it. The king took the bloody body and tossed them out the window to the ocean below.
The queen writhed in pain as she bled upon the bed breathing heavily. She smiled as she rubbed her belly softly. The king started to cry as the queen waved the help that was offered.
"Woman! Please! Don't die!" The king screamed as he knew he might be losing his wife and his child.
"Lester, I won't ..." The queen mumbled as she coughed up blood. "I won't die. Not with our child on the way."
"Promise me!" King Lester gasped.
"I ... I promise babe." The Queen whispered
"You're so stubborn." The king mentioned as he scratched his wife's head.
"Yeah. But you married me." The queen laughed as she started to close her eyes
"Yeah. But It was the best decision that I ever made." The king whimpered as he could feel that his wife's life was fleeting.
Queen Florence looked up to the ceiling as splashes of colors seeped into her room from the sunset. The colors were that of red, orange, and yellow. Queen Florence smiled as she breathed in the cold air of the morning.
Medics arrived just as Queen Florence closed her eyes for just a small rest. That rest lasted for 2 months.
Each day the king would wake up next to his wife, check her pulse, and sighed. He missed her immensely. He missed the way that she would smile and laugh at his jokes. He remembered the days when they would play together as small children because their parents were in diplomatic meetings. He remembered the day that he knew that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. It was a crisp summer morning and the wind was mild and sweet. They were standing on his balcony together looking at the sunrise. Queen Florence always loved the sunrise.
"Florence," King Lester stuttered. "I want to tell you something."
"What is it Lester?" Queen Florence asked. She smiled in the sunrise.
"Though this sunrise is beautiful. You're even more so." King Lester spoke.
Queen Florence laughed a hearty laugh. She loved him so much. She also knew that he was wrong.
"So I want to do something that might seem foolish and rash." King Lester mumbled as he looked at the front of his shoes. "I want to ask you to be my wife and spend the rest of our lives together." King Lester declared as he rested his weight on one knee. He pulled out a ring and looked up at Queen Florence.
"Oh Lester. Of course I will!l Queen Florence yelled. Her smile was beautiful in the sunrise light. Her blue eyes sparkled in the light.
King Lester put the ring on her finger and went up to kiss her. They smiled as they knew what their life had to offer.
That was two years ago. King Lester had lost her for two months and was growing ever more depressed. It was on the day of the start of the 7th month of pregnancy that King Lester woke to not find his wife next to him. King Lester started to panic as he couldn't find his wife. King Lester looked around the room, it was like trying to find a needle on the floor of a sewing factory. King Lester swung open the large doors as he saw Queen Florence walking down the hall with a plate of food for him.
King Lester ran to his wife and hugged her immediately. The plate of food dropped as he hugged and kissed his wife. He missed his wife more than anything in the world. King Lester just stood there with his arms around his love. Queen Florence slowly put her arms around him.
"Miss me?" Queen Florence asked.
Not even a second later King Lester responded with "Yes. More than anything."
The rest of the pregnancy went well. Sure there were restless nights and days where the Queen couldn't stand. She still worked harder than anything. She worked for the welfare of her people. She would do anything to succeed that.
Queen Florence smiled as a small girl was placed into her arms. She was tired with blood coming from the stab wound and from other places. King Lester kissed his wife on the forehead and held his small daughter.
"Lester ..." Queen Florence whispered
"What is it my amazing wife?" King Lester answered.
Queen Florence chuckled and smiled as she clenched her belly. "Lester. Can I rest?" She asked.
"Yes. Why wouldn't you?" King Lester spoke.
"Because if I sleep, I'm worried I might not wake up." Queen Florence cried.
"Florence, you can do it. For our daughter." King Lester spoke.
"I love you Les..." Queen Florence breathed her last breath as she held her daughter. She smiled as she kissed her daughter on the head and died.
King Lester cried an agonizing scream as he held his wife's head.
"You promised me Florence! You promised me you wouldn't die!" King Lester cried.
It was a sad day in the kingdom. With Queen Florence gone, the kingdom went into a state of depression. It got worse 3 years later when Princess Myree wasn't found in her crib. She had been taken. No one knew where, or how. All they knew was that King Lester was never coming out of his castle again.
It has been 12 years since that day. No one has seen the king since the dedication of the tapestry to his wife and daughter. However, major happenings were happening in the castle.
"I think that this is an amazing arrangement Lester." A shadowy figure spoke with absolute certainty
"I don't know Kendrick. I don't feel right about this." King Lester's voice wavered.
"You have no heir Lester. This will get you and heir and the kingdoms will be united!" King Kendrick of the kingdom of Pawent boomed.
"Having your son living with me so he knows the ins and outs of the castle he will be leading from, isn't a good plan." Lester sighed.
"Lester, it's been 12 years since you lost your daughter and 15 years since you lost your wife." King Kendrick explained as he walked down looking calmly at the world around.
"I don't know Ken. This seems like a bad idea." King Lester sighed.
"Nonsense. Here's my son now." King Kendrick chucked.
In front of the two men was a tall lengthy boy with bushy brown hair. He had bright blue eyes and pale white skin. He was smiling as he looked out upon a kingdom. He had a sword on his side with a foldable shield on his left arm. His hair was short with small bangs folding upon his forehead. In the light there were streaks of red in his hair.
King Lester broke a small tear when he saw him.
"Yes, he is handsome isn't he Lester." King Kendrick smiled.
"No, it's not him. It his hair. The highlights of red reminded me of my daughter." King Lester sighed as he walked out of the room. "Whatever Ken. I really don't care anymore. I learned not to care about anyone."
The moon soon fell upon the land with a glowing light. The clouds were like small quartz in the stone of the sky. Prince Mitchell was having trouble falling asleep in his new room. He looked at the moon in the sky and sighed.
"3 in the morning. Stupid new room." Mitchell sighed as he rolled on to his side. "I wonder what this new part of the world has to offer."
Mitchell got off of his bed and walked out of his room. He held a small candle in his hand as he crept through the hallway. A small light could be seen on the end of the hallway. King Lester was walking down as well.
"Ah, Prince Mitchell. Why are you up this late in the morning?" King Lester asked. The sags under his eyes painted a clear story that he'd been up for a while.
"Oh, I couldn't sleep. It takes my body a while to adjust to unfamiliar locations." Mitchell waved. "Why are you up?"
King Lester laughed as his smile started to fade. "Tonight is just a bad night for me."
"How so?" Mitchell asked.
"Well, tonight is ... oh never mind." King Lester chuckled as he walked away.
"No, I want to know. It's odd to me for a man of such stature for you to be up." Mitchell noted.
"Well, today was the day that my daughter was taken." King Lester sighed.
"What do you mean taken?" Mitchell wondered
"We found her missing from her crib."
"How long ago was this?"
"Who did it?"
"We don't know. All that was left was a piece of black fabric."
"Anyone looking for her?"
"We gave up years ago."
"Do you think that she is still alive?"
"Maybe."
"Do you know what she would look like now."
"Yes, she would have beautiful blue eyes like her mother. She would have bright red hair that she got from my side of the family. Her skin would be pale and she may have freckles. I don't know her size, just that I miss her."
"Do you want me to stop asking questions?"
"No, it helps."
"Do I have anymore questions that I need to ask?"
"Don't know. I'm not you."
Mitchell could feel that the conversation was getting annoying. So he started to silently shuffle away.
"No one was able to find her. We went all over the known world. I still have to piece of cloth from the scene. It's in her room. No one has been in the room in years. If you want to go in you can. Just know that you may feel a wave of sadness from a man who'd lost everything." King Lester sighed as he walked away.
"What do wish that you did differently?" Mitchell asked his last question.
"I wish I could've protected them. My wife, my daughter, my family. I've lost everything. I not going to love again." King Lester explained as he walked into the dark back into his room.
Mitchell went back to his room to try to get some sleep. He still couldn't sleep. He just closed his eyes to at least try. All he could see was flashes of this red haired girl laughing and singing.
Prince Mitchell opened his eyes to be met by a blinding river of light smashing into his eyes. It was morning. Prince Mitchell walked down the castle hallways. They looked different than it did in the nighttime. He walked around the hallways. He passed by this door covered with dust and a rose at the start of the door.
"Princess Myree's room." Mitchell thought to himself. He stepped right in front of the door and opened it.
It was a small brightly lit room that held a small crib and a bed. There was a picture of a woman holding a baby. The baby was just how the king described her. She had red hair and bright blue eyes. There was something that the king didn't mention though, she was wearing a rose. It was inside of a small crystal and it was hanging by a silver chain. Mitchell smiled as he looked at the area around him. Everything was left as it was, even the cloth. Mitchell looked at the balcony, it had something particular on it.
