"It's the start of winter!" The teacher says excitedly. The room goes silent for a few seconds before everyone goes back to talking. The teacher responds to this by saying, "You guys really don't seem that excited. C'mon, don't you guys like winter?"

I sigh.

Winter seems like a good season. But it's always cold, plus it's just going to be the same as every other year. Christmas is okay too, but there's nothing to be too excited about.

"I also have some important news for you guys. We have a new student. He's a freshmen named Lance. He'll be here in a few minutes." The teacher continues.

"Oh, a new boy. Maybe you have a chance to stop being a loner." My friend Laura jokingly suggests from across me. She's not wrong though. I've never had a boyfriend, but then again im not too interested in boys. They're okay, but the cute ones are already taken.

"Knock it off, will you?" I say to Laura. "I don't think I'll be getting a boyfriend soon. I don't need one anyway"

"If you say so." Laura says. All of a sudden there's a knock at the classroom door. The teacher opens the door and out comes in what I assumed to be the new boy.

The teacher brings the boy to the front of the class

"So this is our new student. I hope you guys will be kind with him." Says the teacher. The new boy introduces himself

"Hi. I'm Lance and I'm glad to be here." He says nervously. He then sits down. He seems pretty average. Brown hair, with brown eyes.

Laura then whispers to me, "He's kinda cute don't you think? I still think you should've give it a shot."

Ugh, I've got to admit, she's persistent.

"Fine. I'll talk to him today. Better?" I then say.

"Not exactly what I was looking for but fine." Laura replies.

Later during lunch I get my food and scan the cafeteria. I then see Lance at a nearby table alone. I start walking there, but when I get closer, I wonder why I'm even doing what Laura says. She may be my bestfriend since 3rd grade, but I make my own decisions. I was about to turn around, but then Lance notices me.

"Hey. You okay? You wanna sit here?" He asks

I hesitate. Then I reply, "No, I'm fine. I was just looking for someone."

I then turn around and sit away from Laura. Hopefully, she won't see me so she doesn't suspect anything. Later after school I'm on the phone talking to Laura

"So, how did it go? Tell me all the details." Says Laura.

Of course it's the first thing she would ask.

"It was okay. He's pretty average. We only talked about the school." I lie.

"Oh, that's disappointing. Moving on, I'm going to the mall tomorrow with Jacob to find some things for our project next week. You want to come?" She asks.

Jacob, her boyfriend. He's okay but we've only talked a few times. "Can't we just not do the project?" I ask.

"You know exactly why not. This will help you. Besides, there's discounts on most items tomorrow." She replies.

Unfortunately I didn't really have a choice if I wanted to finish my project. "Fine, I'll go." I say

"Yay! Meet me there tomorrow at the entrance at 10."

We say our goodbyes and hang up.

Looks like I'm going to the mall, unfortunately.
