Prologue
There she stands, only yards away, smiling at a passerby. How can she look so beautiful? How can she still be the same girl I had fallen in love with only two years ago? I thought for sure I would never see her again, that fate had some how ruled that out for both of us. But there she stands, her auburn hair touching her shoulders, a soft glow in those emerald eyes.
Maybe I'm dreaming. She can't possibly be so close! My mind races as my heart beats against my rib cage.
Suddenly, Kay turns. Our eyes lock and for a moment electricity passes straight through every part of my body. Her smile softens as she searches my eyes. She quickly turns to her friends, mutters something unintelligently and begins to walk towards me.
"Hello, Reese." I have always loved the way her lips caress my name. It reminds me of all the times we spent together, wrapped in each others arms.
"Kay, I-"
"Dont worry," she breathes, her smile not even touching her eyes.
I am astonished at her ability to hide the bad memories, to pack them away in favor of the good ones. Its a skill I'm still trying to master, but never seem to win.
I stare at her for a moment, searching her eyes, gazing upon her magnificent features. Kay Springer has always been the girl for me, always been the one. Just seeing her breaks down the flood gates of terrible memories, the ones I've tried to bury deep inside. Its taking everything I have not to pull her into me, kiss her sweet hair, and take back everything I had once said to her. I'm the reason she is hurting inside, and that will never change.
