Dakota POV
"Dakota, get downstairs NOW!" my father's booming voice echoing through the house I called home.
"Coming Father" I mumbled as I made my way slowly down the stairs.
My father sat at the table holding my mother's hand.
"I'm here Father" I said.
"Don't say 'Father' in that ungrateful tone" My so-called father sneered.
My name is Dakota Ann Blackwell. I am 17 years old. My birthday is in 2 months; August 26. I work very, very hard in school. And, I don't have friends. It was just me,myself, and I. My life, was well, OK. Make that a little less than OK. My father was abusive and my mother, well, she encouraged my father to beat me. I tried running away a few times but I realized that I was getting fed, had clothes (from Goodwill), and a roof over my head. Eventually I convinced myself not to run away. I was strong, I couldn't run away from my problems. I needed to face my fears. How exactly I was to this was as yet undecided.
"Dakota, make breakfast. And hurry up." I heard my father's voice as I emerged out of my sea of thoughts.
"Oh, and the Carlestos' are coming for dinner today. Make something good." he added as an afterthought.
I rolled my eyes when I turned my back. The Carlestos' were filthy rich. They literally swam in money. We were also rich. By looking at my wardrobe you would guess that my family and I were not very well off (Goodwill hardly ever comes up with anything dressy) .Think again . My parents had the best and priciest of everything. Why I didn't was a question yet to be answered.
I decided to make Cream of Broccoli soup (A/N: My favourite soup!! >.<) and some soft baguettes. I tied up my Black waist-length hair into a messy bun, put on my apron and got to work.
A few hours later the best Soup set was on the table. With the Cream of Broccoli on the table. Just as I was placing the baguettes on the table...
DING DONG! DING DONG!
As I ran to the door my father stopped me and pointed to my messy clothing and hair with a stern look his brown and bushy eyebrows knitted together and then pointed to the top of the stairs. I sighed and climbed up the stairs.
I decided to get something from my mothers closet, I knew she wouldn't mind... I think.
Eventually, I spotted a sapphire dress with diamonds scattered along the neckline. It bunched up elegantly around the waist and smoothed down until my knees.
As for my hair, I stared at it until I decided to French Braid it and add a few small pins here and there. When that task was completed, I took a deep breath and walked down the stairs.
I hadn't seen the Carlestos for years. All I remembered was that they had a son, he was 4 years older than me.
I took a cautious step towards our large living room, I saw my mothers beautiful curls bouncing as she laughed her green eyes glittering. My Father was also smiling, I knew it was genuine as it reached his brown eyes.
I silently walked through the living room towards the empty seat on the other side of my mother. I could feel everyones eyes burning a hole on the back of my head. Suddenly, my white high heels didn't seem so beautiful anymore as they went, Click, Click, Click on the floor.
I finally sat down and said, "Hello, Mr and Mrs Carlesto."
" Why, Hello Dakota! I haven't seen you in years. What a beautiful lady you have become. This is Chase. Our son" she said cheerily, her blue eyes shining with excitement and her delicate blonde hair waving. She gestures towards the young man sitting next to his father.
My jaw dropped as I took him in. Oh...My....God. I quickly closed my mouth my cheeks tinting pink. What a hottie!! I looked away. Way to embarrass yourself Dakota.

Chase POV
She sat down and said, "Hello, Mr and Mrs Carlesto."
I smiled. She hadn't even noticed me. But her voice... It was beautiful. Just like her.
" Why, Hello Dakota! I haven't seen you in years. What a beautiful lady you have become. This is Chase. Our son" Mom said cheerfully, pointing towards me. Her expression on her face when she saw me was satisfying. Her jaw dropped open and she stared at me, her enchanting sea- green eyes wide. Suddenly, she closed her mouth and tinge of pink colored her cheeks. I smiled, my white teeth gleaming and light blue eyes lighting up. I ran my hand through my brown hair, looking at her face.
Almost at once my mother, who I might add was jumping with excitement and I had no idea why, bursted out looking at me, " You and Dakota are getting married!"
"WHAT?!?!" screamed Dakota.
"Yes, WHAT?!" I repeated even though I was silently pleased.
