Chapter 2 - Settling In

You scrunch your eyes when the sun's rays enter your vision. You realise that you were..kinda just hanging off the side of your bed.

"Hmm?"

You fall onto the carpeted floor with a thud. As you were opening your eyes, you catch a glimpse of a note on your wall. You stood up with some struggling and unpinned the note from your wall.

The paper note was hard to read as it was hand-written:

"Used the key to get in. Dropped off the items."

You suddenly remember that the moving company were supposed to arrive in the night, but you fell asleep. You look around your room and realise they were kind enough to bring some of your table top items into your room. Your video games, your clothes...

Wait. You also realise the moving people came into your bedroom at night.

Possum Springs is weird.

You decide that moving, unpacking and all that boring stuff could be done later. You get dressed in some backup clothes you had in your bag and attempt to make yourself look at least decent.

You walk back downstairs and make your way into the kitchen. Almost instinctively, you open the fridge that came with the house. You are greeted with a sad and lonely looking empty fridge. You let out a deep sigh at the realisation that you'll have to go out shopping alone for the first time.

Well, you're an adult now, you need to go shopping. You walk over to the dark wooden front door and step outside. You are instantly greeted by the sweet orange hue of Autumn. The leaves were coloured red and orange and a few kids were running about, playing.

You look to the left and see a female bear, a little bit older than you, glaring at you. She nods towards you as a greeting and you walk over to her, hoping to make a quick new friend.

"Hey." She says in a lazy tone.

"Heya." You say back.

"So you're (Y/N) huh?" She says, with her hands in her pocket, sitting on the step outside her house.

"Y-yeah..How do you know-?"

"Everybody knows everybody here. It's a small town."

"Oh..And what's your name?" You ask, a little anxious about the fact that everyone knows you.

"Selma. People call me Selmers."

"Oh, cool."

A moment of silence passes before she speaks again.

"So do you know your way around town?" She asks.

"Not really, I wanted to find somewhere to buy some stuff but-"

"The snack Falcon's just down the road." Selmers says, pointing towards the shops on the same side of the street as your house.

"Oh thanks."

"Yeah, anyway. Been nice talking." Selmers says, probably signalling the end of your conversation.

You look down the road and realise that everything is kinda just lined up on one side of the street. The other side was just forest. You walk up the road and overhear some people arguing on a rooftop.

"You and your stargazing! That kid isn't interested. All she wants to do is climb on our rooftops!" An old alligator says to a frail male cat.

"Ridiculous! Mae dropped out because she just didn't enjoy college life." The cat responded.
