Tough And Afraid

Chapter 1

"Finally, you took forever." David exaggerates.

"Whatever," I reply and look out the window as we pull out of the drive way and drive off to school. David looks over at me as my phone keeps going off.

"Jordan, you haven't been texting Jake have you?" He asks worried. I roll my eyes.

"No David I haven't. I'm not stupid." I snap back at him.

"Then who are you texting? I'm sorry but this is for your own safety."

"I'm texting Mom. Don't worry, I'm never going to talk to or text Jake ever again." I tell him. The reason David doesn't want me texting Jake is because Jake is the reason we had to move to Virginia. He is a very sensitive topic for me, and all I'm saying is thank god David was there that night.

"Good. So anyways you excited for junior year?" He asks.

"Not really, school sucks and I won't know anyone at all. But are you excited for senior year?"

"Yeah. Finally I'm almost out of high school!" He excitedly says. I laugh at him as we pull into the school. David finds a spot and parks the car everyone staring at us as we get out of the car. All the guys drooling while looking at me and the girls staring at David in awe and giving me dirty looks.

"Come on let's go get our schedules I'm feeling uncomfortable with them staring at us." David says laughing a bit. I agree and give a small laugh as I follow him to the main office. After getting our schedules we walk out into the main hall going over our classes. All the sudden a tall blonde, skinny, preppy, and an excited girl appears in front of us.

"Hi! My name is Victoria and I'm the 11th grade peer leader. I'm here to show you around. Your name is Jordan right?" She says with a huge smile.

"Uh yeah, and this is my older brother David." I reply giving a small smile. She looks over at David smiles and winks.

"Uh hey," David says uncomfortably and looking over at me, "I'm gonna go find my class so you too go have fun." He walks away looking at his schedule trying not to laugh. Victoria and I just stand there for a minute or two in awkward silence.

"What's your first class?" She asks me.

"Uhhhhh, I have Calculus first with Mrs.Carter." I reply looking down at my schedule.

"Oh me too! Come with me and I'll show you there." She says walking away with me following her. I look around as we are walking and notice everyone staring at me again. The guys smiling and the girls glaring. Once we get into math class I go sit in the back and Victoria sits in the front. Thankfully the teacher doesn't make me stand up and say hi like they did to the new kids at my old school back in California. Math ends and Victoria walks me to my next class French. I walk in and sit in the back again. The teacher makes me say hi to the class and tell everyone my name as everyone stares at me as they did before. Finally 3rd block, time for art. The room is right down the hall so I walk in there and sit at one of the tables and wait until the teacher comes in. I notice a tall dirty blonde hair kid wearing a beanie with all the girls and guys surrounding him laughing and having a good time. The teacher walks in and the blonde boy turns around we make eye contact and then he smiles. I smile back and he walks over and sits down right next to me.

"Hey, I'm Matt." He says smiling.

"Hi. I'm Jordan." I reply smiling a little back at him.
