Dior

The day was slowly coming to and end as I walked down the streets of the west side of Chicago. The street lights flickered on and off as I passed an abundance of crack houses and abandoned buildings.

The previous day was The Fourth Of July and here in my hood fireworks went off on the fifth just ask much as they did on the fourth. These bad neighborhood kids where outside chasing each other with Roman candles trying to shoot each other as if they had guns instead of fireworks.

This was another thing I couldn't wait to get away from. The crime rate here in my city has gotten out of control. To the point where the detectives and officers didn't even attempt to solve the cases. It's sad when young kids who barely even experienced life get gunned down by a bitch ass nigga who can't fucking aim.

I have decided that this is the night where I leave all this shit behind and start a new and better life far from this failing ass city.

As I approached my porch I heard someone yelling my name from behind

"D, slow down girl!" I turned around to see and old friend of mine Faith running to catch up to me.

"Damn girl you speed walking like somebody after yo ass or sum" Faith said
damn near out of breath.

Little did she know I was not only tryna escape this city but something else

"Hey girl what's the word?" Dior replied as she turned around to face Faith. "None much I just left that no good ass nigga house and I seen you walking. I remember you telling me you were leaving town today"

Everyone close to me knew I was leaving but no one really knew the real reason why. I just told my people I needed a new change in scenery and that I wanted to branch off while attending one of my dream schools down in Memphis. No one but me knew the real reason.

"Yeah bitch I'm tryna get away from all this shit, no offense to you" Dior replied

"Shittt none taken, I swear to god if I had the chance to leave I would to because Chicago is just not what it use to be" she said

Faith and I had been friends ever since the seventh grade. We both had tried out for the basketball team and made it and we been good friends ever since. We played all throughout high school and even a couple years at Malcolm X Community College.

"Yes girl, I really wish you could come with me but this is something I need to do on my own. It's time for me to really get my shit together I'll be 21 in a couple of months. But I promise I'll come back to visit as much as I can and you know we gon FaceTime every night"

She didn't know but once I left this bitch I would not be returning, but I couldn't tell her that right now

Yes I could trust my girl Faith but this was something I just needed to do on my own without anyone knowing. This way my plan would be actually successful. At least that's what i hope

"Okay hoe ima hold you to that and istg you better bring yo lil ass back, don't make me come find yo ass " Faith said jokingly

"I promise you I'll be back to see you shorty" I said

As she was about to speak Darnel, a boy from our my hood, who is also my other Bestfriend helped me move all my shit. He suddenly came out the house with the last of my things. He had a box in one hand as he pulled his pants up with the other.

"That's the last of it D, I think I'm actually gonna miss yo fry head ass" he said tryna be funny

"Yeah yeah, I know you gon miss seeing my pretty ass in da hood, try not to miss me too much" I said smirking at him

"Okay now you getting ahead of yo self lil one. You ain't even all that" Darnel said

"Whatever boy" I laughed

I decided not to bring to much of my belongings with me since I would be driving my own car all the way to Memphis. It didn't bother me since I didn't want to have too many memories from this place. So all I had with me was a majority of my clothes, any important papers and hygiene products.

Faith couldn't help but to squeeze me to death as she hugged me. Tears started falling uncontrollably from my eyes as I thought about all the memories we shared. Darnel couldn't help but join in on the hug. We all stood there in a group hug rocking back and fourth. I have to say I was really gonna miss these two fools. They were my bestfriends

" Okayyyy if we hug any longer I might just stay and I know y'all would love that but I really gotta go" I said as we broke the hug.

Walking to the car I heard Darnel yell, "Let any of them niggas fuck with you down there and ima smoke one of they ass ion play about you" he said with smirk but I knew he wasn't playing at all.

"And that's period Pooh!" Faith joined in and said while swiping her hand under her chin.

"Y'all are crazy" I said as I sat in the drivers seat and buckled my seatbelt. "But I love y'all crazy ass, I promise ima be okay I'll be back sooner than later"

"Bye bestieeeee" Faith and Darnel yelled as I pulled off. I honked my horn as I sped down the streets dodging a pot hole.

I just needed to make one more stop before I headed to the I-90 express way. I had to stop at the local convenience store to grab a couple of snacks for the road. I headed inside and went straight to the chip isle and grabbed the hottest bag of hot crunch kurls I could find. I grabbed a wildwood pop, grandma cookies, some peach rings and frooties and headed to the counter to pay.

As I grabbed my things after paying I walked to the my car door and reached for the handle. I froze as I saw a familiar black 2019 tinted Escalade. I felt my legs become weak and my hands grew sweaty as I started to realize my plan had just failed. I was prepared to get dealt with in the most awful way.

The driver door of the Escalade swung open as I saw a pair of Jordans hit the pavement. I just knew it was over with for me. My heart beat settled when I saw the face and realized it was just some random guy I never seen before.

I jumped in my car so fast and sped out off the parking lot. I instantly hopped on the express way and headed towards my destination. That was a close one I said to myself as I plugged the aux cord into my phone.
