Roger's POV

I was the classic all-American kid, the star quarter-back for the football team and one of the most popular kids in school. All the girls swooned around me. I could have had any girl I ever wanted. But why did a part of me want him.

I can't be gay I told myself everyday. I'd spend what felt like every waking minute thinking about it. I couldn't be gay. I was a football player. I was popular. I'd had sex with girls before and I enjoyed it. I admit it wasn't the best but I just told myself that it would get better. All my life I'd never questioned my sexuality. Until that one day when he entered my life and changed it forever.

———————————————————————

Miss Dover was droning on about something in my biology class. I was trying my hardest to listen but everything she said just sounded like white noise.

After I'd finished high school I was planning on going to college to study dentistry. I wasn't like a typical jock as I was quite smart and cared about my grades so, as I was doing well in Biology, I asked Miss Dover what jobs would get me the most money. She suggested dentistry and I've been planning for that ever since.

I was suddenly awoken from my thoughts as the teacher stopped talking. I hadn't been listening once again but I noticed the absence of her drone almost immediately.

Peering up from where I had been staring at my page, tapping my pencil on the desk, I saw her scuttle over to the door. Only then did I look at the door and realise why she had stopped teaching. I gasped slightly when I saw him stood in the door frame. I didn't recognise him so I started to listen to their conversation, confused by his presence. I was unable to make out what they were saying entirely as I was sat in the back, middle of the class but heard her say "oh you must be the new student I've been expecting". As I couldn't make out any words after that, I turned my attention back onto the boy.

He had slightly curled, light brown hair, that went just below his shoulders and was parted in the middle with some short bangs in the front. I had never payed much attention to guys with long hair but this hair suited him well. I could also tell that he was nervous as he tried to keep his eyes on the teacher talking to him but they would every so often flit towards the other students who had begun talking amongst themselves. The way he carried himself also displayed awkwardness as he held more of his weight on one leg and crossed his arms over his chest trying to make himself look smaller. He lingered towards the door and only edged ever so slightly into the room after he knocked.

I didn't really notice that I had been subconsciously analysing him and had lost their conversation until I saw that she was looking around, likely searching for a place for him to sit. My heart rose when I saw her eyes lay upon the two empty seats beside. As I looked at her hopeful, my eyes couldn't help but once again land upon the new boy stood next to her.

As I looked over at him, I caught him looking back at me. As soon as our eyes met he turned away bashfully, his cheeks reddening as he realised that he had been caught looking at me. As he was now looking at anything but me, I looked back at Miss Dover and my smile fell as her gaze left the seats next to me. She then turned back to the boy and pointed to a seat a row ahead of me, a few chairs down. He then scurried towards his new seat and sat down, all the while keeping his eyes glued to the floor to hide his flushed face.

Only once he had sat down did my mind catch up with me. Why was I so disappointed that this new student had not been sat next to me? Why was I so excited when he looked at me and once again disappointed when he looked away? And why even after realising that I was being weird could I still not stop watching him?

The rest of the lesson went by in instance and the next thing I knew the bell had gone and I had not gotten anything down on my paper after an hour of sitting in this classroom. I was so out of it that lesson that after hearing the bell I didn't even really acknowledge what it meant until most people had already left the room and were off to period 2.
