Put an End Child to Abuse

A little boy named Kevin is turning three years of age, he has various cuts and bruises all over his body. His grandmother decides to take him out to celebrate his special day. She knows why Kevin has all those scars on his body, but his parents tell her something different. The scars all over him are all created from “accidents”. When they finish celebrating she brings him home thinking his parents will celebrate his birthday. That same night Kevin's alcoholic father kicks him to death. This is a real and cruel story of a child abuse victim. This is one of many stories..

Child Abuse is an issue that needs to be brought to attention. There are thousands of kids in this world are abused every day. There should be a stop to child abuse because those children feel trapped, alone, worthless, and scared, which can sometimes lead to the child committing suicide.

Even though parents might think that hitting or beating their child will cause them to change a small flaw about them. There should be a stop to Child Abuse because Victims of abuse are 6x more likely to abuse their own children and The National Committee for the Prevention of Child Abuse estimates 40% of deaths are from the result of child abuse cases of child abuse and neglect are reported each year. There shouldn't be any cases at all in this matter. There are even more cases of child abuse everywhere. But they are never brought to authorities to be taken care of and if it is brought to attention its already too late according to  Child Abuse:An American Epidemic.

There was a very young girl named Lauren Kavanaugh who was locked in a closet from December 26, 1994 to June 11, 2001. She was victim of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. Her stepfather and birth mother constantly abused the child. The parents would starve the child. The half-sisiter would bath Lauren when the parents weren’t home. Incest is sexual intercourse between two persons commonly regarded as too closely related to marry. When she was rescued

in June of 2001 she was only eight years old. Psychologistat the Children’s Medical Center say that she didn't know how to sit in a chair or even talk. Doctors also say that she was 25.6 pounds, that's the average weight of a 2 year old child. The doctors that operated on her say its the worst damage they have ever seen.

Sexual abuse is the least common type of abuse. At least 65% of all incest victims claim that their fathers or mothers were alcoholics. Victims of sexual abuse or harassment sometimes feel worthless and it occasionally leads to suicide. Sexual abuse is less common than other types of abuse. According to Child Abuse:An American Epidemic, A father’s initial sexual advances toward his daughter maybe triggered by a traumatic family event. Jullian Messner, author of  Child Abuse: An American Epidemic, states that sexual abuse between the mother and son, that the son is the one to commit the crime. Signs of sexual abuse is if the daughter is with another guy the father seems to be jealous of the guy. If the father doesn't want the daughter to see other guys other than him.Sexual abuse victims range from infancy to adolescence. 20% of females and 9% of males have been sexually abused before their 18th birthday stated in The Sexual Abuse of  Children and Adolescents by Margret O. Hyde and Elizabeth H. Foryth . Incest can occur at every social and economic level. Sexual abuse shouldn’t occur because I feel that if someone becomes sexually active that they should have the right to become active with anyone they choose, and  shouldn't be forced or pressured to become sexualy active with a family member or close friend. But the terrifying thing about this type of abuse is that 50- 90% of sexual abuse cases that involves family members. but most cases aren't reported. 62% of the defendant(s) are either the father or surrogate fathers of the victim.(Hyde and Forsyth 24) People might think that only males ar the one to commit sexual abuse, but a small percentage of abusers are female, a recent study increased over the past years.(Hyde and Forsyth 29)

Another type of abuse is emotional abuse also known as verbal abuse. At least 2,500 kids are caused emotional abuse or neglect everyday. The National Committee for the Prevention of Child Abuse receives approximately 250,000 reports of emotional abuse each year. Parents might not realize that they are causing emotional damage to a child. There is a difference between discipline and abuse. Some parents can be strict without crushing the child's spirit, but some can be strict but cause emotional damage to the child. Parents might think that if they say something hurtful to the child, the child might change, but that’s not necessarily true. When saying something hurtful it can make the child feel guilty for small incidents. Parents who commit this type of abuse to their children makes the child may feel guilty, worthless, or humiliated.  If you as a friend or teacher suspects if a child is emotionally abused at home or anywhere else. The signs to look for is if the child appears frightened and tries to avoid contact with people, also if the child seems non-sociable and quiet. Emotional abuse includes verbal attacks as well as the withholding of love and approval.Verbal abuse is when a parent calls their child an unattractive name or anything else said to make them feel bad, Verbal Abusers attempt to define a person with words (ugly, stupid, etc.).

Another type of abuse is Physical abuse. It is common in some families.  According to loveisrespect.org, Physical abuse is any intentional and unwanted contact with your body and a family member, friend, teacher,, etc.. Sometimes abusive behavior does not cause pain or even leave a bruise, but it's still unhealthy. Examples of physical abuse are:

Scratching, punching, biting, strangling or kicking.

Throwing something at you such as a phone, book, shoe or plate.

Pulling your hair.

Pushing or pulling you.

Grabbing your clothing.

Using a gun, knife, box cutter, bat, mace or other weapon.

Smacking your bottom.

Grabbing your face to make you look at them.

Grabbing you to prevent you from leaving or to force you to go somewhere

These are ways a parent might make any kind of physical contact with there child.

Child Abuse should be stopped. How would you feel if you were abused. Would you feel abandoned? I. I wanted to bring the topic of child abuse because of the book  A Child Called “It” This story of Mr.Pelzer is heart-breaking. This book gave me something to think about. It Made me think “What if that was me?” If you haven't read the book yet, I would advice you read it. Child Abuse is serious, its not something to joke about. Because anyone can be a victim. Even you. If you or someone you know is being abused please contact law enforcement. You shouldn’t be going through the pain of child abuse. You deserve to be heard. No matter what people say to you or about you.
