"They just lost their father, surely there's something you can do!" Voices drifted into the nursery, filling the ears of the two confused kits. They exchanged glances before snuggling closer into their mother.
"Riversong, can we go outside?" The smallest of the two asked, his green eyes round with curiosity. The mother didn't move. "Riversong? Foxkit, why isn't she replying? Is she playing?" It seemed that the little kit couldn't quite understand what was happening, but the other one did. His eyes darkened and his head lowered.

"She's dead, Finkit. Riversong is dead."

----

"They still require milk, Jaystar. Unless we find a nursing queen, they could die."
"Not necessarily. They're old enough to eat fresh-kill."
"Are they? The one is barely the size of my paw."
"If nothing else, we can chew up the food and feed them that way. Either way, these kits will not die."
"I trust you, Shadywing. You should trust him as well. He's a fine medicine cat." The leader felt the tension all around her, clearly the stake of two kits lives were hanging on both her paws and the paws of the cat she trusted the most. If they died, what would come of them? No, she had to trust in her medicine cat. She did trust in her medicine cat.

----

"From this day, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Foxpaw. Your mentor will be Tigerfrost." Amber eyes shot across the clearing towards the scary old tom. Tigerfrost seemed caught off guard, but walked forward nonetheless and touched noses with the young apprentice.

"Can we explore the territory?" Foxpaw stared up at the large white cat, excitement seeming to fill his gaze. "I want to see every inch of it! Ooh, can Finpaw come with? Can he, Mossfire?" Before any other cat could answer, Foxpaw bolted towards the entrance of the camp, leaving not only his leader, but his mentor staring in amusement. His brother however, hung back. It appeared as if Finpaw didn't seemed to be too excited.

"Well, we should catch up to him." Tigerfrost grunted and padded towards the entrance. Mossfire nodded in response and licked Finpaw right between the ears.

"Come along, Finpaw. You won't be too frightened once you know this territory." With that, the three remaining cats vanished through the bushes.

-
"Are you certain he's fit to be a warrior?" Shadywing pushed her way into her leaders den. "He's far too anxious and unlike his brother, he doesn't really have a lot of energy."

"It's what he wanted. If he wishes to be a medicine cat, he will let us all know. In the meantime, let it play out. We can't force a cats destiny."

Okay, this is just my way of getting the story out there. I'm absolutely terrible at starting stories. It won't be this bad once I get into the actual chapters. I'm just seeing where I go with this. I haven't really wrote much in a very long time, nor do I know if I have the motivation to write out a proper story. Right now I've been more focused on roleplaying than anything else. (which if you're interested, I have a discord full of roleplayers that would love to have you-)
