Carly's POV

I stared at my reflection of the glass by the cafeteria; only to glace up for a second, and I quickly looked back down again. My bright moss green eyes staring back at me. I adjusted the strap on my brown leather messenger bag and headed off to my locker; located in the deserted hallway. Thank god it was there. Less people to laugh at me and make a fool of myself.
I quickly navigated my way through the crowded hallways, searching for the deserted hallway to find peace and quite from the chaos of this school.
I just moved here from a small town of RiverBrook to the hustle and bustle of Castlekin City. I am now attending Composite Castlekin High. It was really difficult leaving RiverBrook. I've lived there for my entire life. I loved it there. It was so peaceful. My favorite thing to do would be on the weekends, I would go and play in the forest with some of my friends. We would play hide and go seek and climb trees all day. I was such a carefree kid, I didin't have to worry about anything, be pressured, or worry about fitting in.
Finally, I reached my locker. I got the ocassional glances from people as they passed by. Not everyday you see a girl with a bald head walking around school. By now, I'm used to it. I have Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Which is the fancy words of saying that I have Leukemia. I was dignosed when I was ten. My mother was completely devestated, and my father just thought that it was just another thing that he was going to spend money on.
He's such an asshole. You would think you would be so supportive of your child going through such a difficult time at a young age, but no. I hate him with a passion. He only cares about himself and no one else. My mom deserves better.Anyways, enough about that scumbag I have as a father. This is my story; not his.
I fiddled with my locker combination and after about three tries, I managed to open my locker. I'm still new to going to school; considering I just came back into school about a year or two ago. Before that, I was in the hospital continuously, doing all sorts of tests on me. I swear, they have done every single test on me like three times.
I opened my locker and grabbed my books for my next classes. "Chemistry, Math, and French."'I mumbled looking at my timetable. I stuffed my books into my bag and looked into the mirror that I had in my locker. I wore a blank expression on my face. What else is new? It seems like I am never happy these days. I has a pale, oval shaped face, slightly arched eyebrows, and thin lips. The only thing that stood out about me were my bright moss green eyes. When I was young, I thought that I captured a piece on the forest in my eyes. I'd run up and tell my mom, and she would always laugh at my explanation. But that was before I had my cancer. I pushed that thought to the back of my mind. Before I closed my locker, I grabbed my favorite white sparkly beanie that my mom got me for Christmas. I carefully put it on my head. That will have to do for now, until I can convince my mom to buy me a wig.(Which probably won't happen for a while.)
I shut the door to my locker and went down the hallways to my Chemistry class. Which happened to be on the other side of the school. Great. I mentally rolled my eyes and pushed my way through the halls. Just as I was about to go into my Chemisty class, something caught my eye. A poster to be excat. The poster read "Find Your Voice." In big, fancy cursive writing. It showed a silhouette of a girl with long curled hair, holding a microphone that was attached to the micstand. It looked like there was a singing contest that was going to be held soon. It read "Come to the North Cinema on Thursday, November 22nd @ 6'oclock to audition for The Battle of the Voices. All singers are welcome to attend. Winner recieves cash prize. Hope to see you there!"
I looked down at my phone to check the date. It was November 7th which meant it was only two weeks away. For a moment, I actually considered going. A little voice inside of me whispered.
You going to sing in front of all of those people? They would only get in because you just a charity case. I mean look at you, your a mess. There's no way you can peform looking like that. People are going to laugh at you, their going to think your some sort of joke.
The words ecohed through my head. I quickly pushed that voice aside; hoping it wouldn't come back. Maybe that voice was right. What chance do I have? I walked away from the poster heading towards the doorway to my next class. I glanced at the poster one last time over my shoulder. I sighed in disappointment, and continued walking into my Chemistry class. Hoping no one would notice me.
