Coming Home

The smell of autumn leaves came to my attention. I drove around town looking at all the stores and coffee shops.

I finally came across my house and pulled into the drive way. I slowly got out of the car and grabbed my bags from the trunk and began to walk towards the door. Everything still looks the way it did before I left. The house is still grey with the bright baby blue door and a branch like wreath hanging on the front. The sidewalk with the different kind of sizes and colors of grey stones. The beautiful rose thorn bush just right of the stairs and the almost square like pure green bushes to the left. The grass was still green as ever.

Before I went inside, I took a step back. "What's going to happen when I walk through the door," I thought to myself with a confused face. I whispered, "Let's find out."

With my heart pounding through my chest, I threw a smile across my face and tightly grasped the handles of my bags. I slowly walked up the stoned path to that baby blue front door. Then, I paused for a moment... I finally got the courage to push the door open. I peaked in and didn't see anyone. After a couple minutes, I took one more look around and then decide to walk in and placed my bags to the side. I walked left to the living room, taking in how the walls are still an ivory white, with the grey lace curtains beautiful draped over the silky white ones. The plants on the window sill are still beautiful as ever and look even more fresh than when I left. All of a sudden, a storm of people came jumping up from all sorts of places yelling, "Surprise!"

I was astounded. I glanced around the room and found my aunt and sister. I hugged them tightly. It's been so long since I've seen them.

Hours upon hours gone by. Slowly, the crowd of people began to lighten up. I grabbed my bags that were still left next to the door and ran up the stairs into my room. I immediately closed my door and locked it. Then, dropped my bags and leaned against the door, letting out a deep sigh.

I took a minute to look around the room. I saw how everything was exactly how I left it three years ago.
I walked over to the end of my bed that still had my satin purple blanket with white, pink, and grey followers over it and had sheets with matching grey background and purple, white and pink followers on them. I ran my hand across it taking in how it all felt. I've missed this room. I took one last look around the room, how my white vanity with a clear top was still the same, with all my pictures of my aunt and sister and myself at various places. I took one last sigh and fell backwards onto my bed. I closed my eyes for a couple of minutes. When I opened them again, it was dark out and I was under the covers. I looked around the room shocked.

Did I fall asleep?

I got out of bed and walked downstairs. No one was home. I go back upstairs and checked my phone, "3:30 am."
Why isn't anyone home? I thought.

I logged into my phone and dialed my aunts number. As it goes to voicemail, I hear a noise outside my door. I walked over and opened it. I didn't see anything so I started to dial my sisters number. I heard a noise behind me, like someone running really fast. I turned around as fast as I could, I didn't see anyone.
I began dialing again. Then, there suddenly was a man standing at the other side of my bed. It startled me. He was tall, hair pushed back out of his face. He had a muscular body.
"Who are you? How did you get into my house?"
"I'm-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to startle you. I saw that the door was open to your house. It looked like no one was home. I was making sure that everything was okay. Then, I came across you."
"Oh, I must have forgot to close the door."
"I'm sorry, I don't understand." He walked a little closer to the bed.
"My family threw a surprise welcome home party for me. I guess I didn't close the door behind me.... You said, you didn't find anyone in the house, but me?" I was very confused. How was I the only one home at this time of the night? And I wasn't the only one noticing that my family was gone.
"I checked all rooms, no one was in the other bedrooms. I'm guessing there's others that live here?" He started walking around the bed towards me.
"Yeah, my aunt and sister."
"I'll go searching for them," he started to walk out,"by the way, my name is Stefan, Stefan Salvatore." He walked out before I could mention my name.
He seemed so protective. Stefan Salvatore? Why does that sound so familiar? Then it clicked. He was the kid that lived in one of the original families houses.
What am I doing just sitting here? I have to go find my family!
I grabbed my keys and purse. Then, ran downstairs.
