"Hello?" I said as i answered my phone.
"Hi, do you know a Jeremiah Canton?"
"Yeah, why?" I asked, confused.
"This is Dr. Kaleb from emergency down at the hospital. Jeremiah is here and we can't get in contact with his parents or a legal guardian. He has been asking for you."
"Oh my god, is he okay?!?" I panicked.
"Don't worry, Rachel, it's nothing life threatening, just please come to the hospital as soon as it is convenient for you."
"Uhh... Okay, I'm about ten minutes away, I'm coming there now."
"Alright, thank you for your help, drive safely."
I hung up my phone and grabbed my keys. I rushed out to my car and tried to calm down.
I started the car and began to drive to the hospital. I found myself waiting impatiently at every stoplight, and pushing the speed limit.
After about nine minutes, i pulled into the parking lit and found a space. I rushed across the parking lot and into the emergency wing of the hospital.
"Who are you here for?" Asked a lady sitting at a desk.
"Jeremiah Canton." I said breathlessly.
"Rachel?" She asked and I nodded. "He is in room 126B, down that hall, to the left." She handed me a keycard and I quickly walked down the hallway until I saw the room. I put the card in the slot, and opened the door. A doctor rushed over to keep me from entering, until he saw the card I had.
"Rachel?" Jeremiah said weakly.
My head snapped away from the doctor to look at him.
"Yeah, it's me," I said as I rushed over to him. "What happened?!?"
He winced as a doctor inserted a needle into his arm.
He started to answer, but the doctor interrupted him.
"It looks like he has a serious knee injury. We are examining it now."
I stared at Jeremiah, and he said, "Football."
"Oh, how are you feeling?" I asked.
"Not too good, it hurts really bad." He said and his face scrunched up in pain as the doctor poked and prodded at his knee.
"We are going to have to do an x-ray and an MRI scan to determine the damage. Everyone needs to exit the room."
"Do you have your phone?" I asked.
He silently nodded and I walked out of the room after promising to text him.
I sat down in a hard plastic chair in the waiting room.
I pulled out my phone and told him to text me the results when he was done.
After a while of starting into space, my phone lit up with a text from Jeremiah.
It said, 'theres a break in the bone, torn meniscus, and torn ACL :( '
I replied, 'aww... Can i come back in now?'
When he answered with a yes, i walked back into the room and sat in a chair by the hospital bed.
"As you know there is a small break in the bone, and the meniscus and ACL are both torn. You will need to schedule a surgery whenever it is convenient. Here is the paperwork that will need to be signed and filled out." Someone said and handed Jeremiah a clipboard.
