Chapter One
New to me

I exit the shower, wrapping a towel around my body and another around my head. I walk over to my pill and turn the speaker's volume up, 'Say Goodbye' by Chris Brown comes onto my playlist and I sing along. I lotion myself up and put on my underwear, I walk through my closet and put on a Spider-man shirt with black sleeves and a white background, some black leggings and my black Uggs.

I enter my bathroom once more and remove the towel from my head, damp, Brown, curly hair swings and hangs down my back. I grab my brush and run it through my hair, I gather all my hair and pull it up into a messy bun.

I walk back into my room and grab my phone, jacket and purse and head down the spiral staircase.

"Grams I'm headed to the store, you need anything?" I ask my grandma as I grab my car keys.

"For my baby to come back in one piece." she says, smiling sweetly at me.

"C'mon don't I always grams?" I ask, leaning over her rocking chair and kissing her smooth cheek.

"Ma come on don't say things like that." my aunt Jennifer says, entering the room with a bowl of chicken soup, crackers and a glass of Orange juice on top of a tray.

"I'm sorry, you know I worry about my baby." grams says, bringing the needle and thread through the fabric once more.

"Yeah I know ma, but you don't have to anymore! You're here in Atlanta now, ain't no way anybody gonna be out here looking for her." my aunt says, pulling up a small table next to my grams' chair and setting the tray down.

"Yeah grams, I'll be fine here." I added onto my aunts statement, trying to reassure my grandma that everything was gonna be fine.

Me and my grandma just moved here from New Orleans, Louisiana a few weeks ago. Grams got sick and I knew I couldn't take care of her all on my own , especially with the drama going on in that town. That's when I called my aunt Jennifer and asked if we could come out here and stay with her, at least until grams got better. I knew better than that though, grams had been getting sick on and off so much she had to quit her job, with this happening just years before she was set to retire, she isn't able to receive any checks for retirement.

Anyway, I knew I couldn't take care of grams and her medical bills working off minimum wage, so I did what I had to do to make some extra money. I got into a lot of trouble with a lot of bad people and they started coming after me. That's another way we ended up here, grams was tired of waiting up late at night worrying if she was gonna see her granddaughter again or not. I didn't want my grams worrying about me so I had to make this call, if I didn't, who knows what would have happened to me...

"My baby, you're so strong, I need you to stay safe." grams says, placing a hand to my cheek.

"I know grandma, and I need you to stop worrying about me so much. I'm fine, everything's gonna be fine." I say, smiling at her.
