Thunder cracked overhead as flashes of lightning illuminated the sky above. Thick droplets of rain plummeted to the ground as feline eyes watched from the safety of a house. Yami knew it was dangerous to sit by a window during a thunderstorm, but frankly he didn't care seeing as he was not in the best of moods.
Usually Yami was at least indifferent to everything around him. Often ignoring those around him in favor of remaining in his own world where everything wasn't troublesome.
Call him lazy or a jerk, but Yami never bothered to try and help people if it meant it interrupted his normal life routine. Sure he's saved a few people from crooks or crazed psycho killers, but that usually meant he was woken from his slumber or they were blocking his path.
Either way Yami had a small reputation of being a hero. A dark hero, but a hero nonetheless. Dark meaning everyone he's faced met a very cruel and bloody end. Yami was a naturally lazy person who didn't like to spend excess energy on anything. If killing meant these people would stop disturbing his nap, he was willing to kill without hesitation.
His attitude soon got him attention. Attention he was not stoked about having seeing as it was extremely troublesome. This lead to the mood he was in now. Troublesome situations meant work, and work meant effort. Yami was not one for the effort department. Sadly he didn't have much of a choice considering his circumstances.
Venting a sigh of annoyance, Yami turned his sights away from the window for a while to focus on the rectangular device in his hand. He had just received a new mission early this morning before the storm started. Though he was lazy, he knew missions were important to the clan's survival.
The mission itself was pretty simple. A scout team had just returned with information concerning an underground lab somewhere on the border of the clan's territory. Yami's job, being part of the assassin core, was to infiltrate the place and basically slaughter everyone there including the experiments.
It was a bloody job and would require a lot of work on his part. The place was heavily fortified, so a frontal assault was obviously not going to work. This meant Yami was to go alone without his other two teammates who specialized in front line infantry.
The time limit was two days, so Yami should probably get moving if he wanted to make the deadline. Clan borders were far from the village. The closest being several miles away. In this storm, Yami estimated he'd be slowed down due to terrain and foren obstacles like fallen trees or sudden mudslides.
"How troublesome." Yami growled as he stood from the window side bench.
Letting his aura take control, Yami felt his body start to change. It wasn't a painful changed like some users experience, but it was uncomfortable seeing as his entire structure had to change.
Dropping down on all fours, Yami watched as his skin turned to fur. His teeth turned to fangs, and his nails sharpened into claws. Three long tails sprung from his tailbone as his heterochromic eyes gained slitted pupils.
Once the change finished, Yami stood as a four foot tall black puma. His aura avatar was an odd one. Usually avatars resembled the given animal perfectly, but for Yami his was slightly different. Different as in it was much taller and had thrice the many tails a normal puma should have. His coat was also black instead of a sandy brown color.
Yami was what many called a vessel. Vessels are born once every thousand years, and have a lot more power at their command than a normal aura warrior. Unfortunately for Yami he was the vessel for his village which meant he was pretty much the prize race horse in the eyes of the villagers he's more or less forced to protect.
