"Save them ... everything ... power ... save them," I heard my mother say to the doctor but only caught parts. My mind was drifting. I knew I was nearing the end.

I don't know how long it was that I was unaware of my surroundings. It could have been seconds. It could have been hours. I drifted in and out of consciousness for however long it was but then all I could feel, was the pain.

It started in my neck then three sharp points down my arm, then down the other. Next three sharp points in one leg, three in the other. One of each wrist. It was excruciating. Each point was an individual piercing into my skin where the pain seemed to join together and spread through out my body where it worsened.

I screamed. I screamed and I screamed. "I'm sorry," I heard someone whisper but I couldn't focus on it. All there was, was the pain, the fire burning through me.

There was another set of screams. I couldn't identify them at the beginning of the burning but nearer the end I could.

After a time, the other screams stopped. A lot of whispering took place between two people. One was Edward, the other I didn't recognise.

But Edward's voice sounded different to how I remembered. It was more musical, beautiful, much like the other voice.

"Why's it taking so long?" Edward asked.
"I don't know," the other man answered. I screamed again.

Somebody's hand grabbed mine. "Amelia?" Edward asked from next to me. "Can you hear me, Emmy." I tried to nod, I wanted to say yes but I couldn't talk through the pain. I let out another scream.

"She can hear," Edward told the other person in that strange melodic voice. "She just can't talk through the pain." How did he know that?

"It's going to be okay, Emmy," he said. "It will be over soon."

The burning didn't stop. It continued for what felt like eternity. Then it started to fad from my fingers and toes and I was grateful until the burning in my heart multiplied. I'd never felt anything like it. I'd take the last, however long, again, several times rather than feel this pain.

The burning centred in my heart and it built and built. My heart beat raced faster and faster and with one final scream, one final beat, it stopped.

Just like that, my heart stopped beating. Was I dead? I had to be. No one could survive that.

"You're not dead," Edward said beside me. I opened my eyes at the sound of his voice, I hadn't even realised they'd been shut. I gasped at the sight around my. I was in a beautiful little house in a ... study perhaps. Everything was so sharp, defined. My eyesight had always been perfect but this was something else. I could hear footsteps but knew they weren't in the house. I couldn't hear that far. Was I going mad?

"Emmy, you're not mad." My eyes shifted to Edward who was sat next to me, holding my hand. It was like I had never seen him before. Everything was so much clearer and he looked different, better than he had done before. Though I couldn't remember much from before the burning; everything was sort of fuzzy. I could picture Mother and Father. I could picture Edward but he was different to this.

Now he was more handsome, paler and his eyes. I gasped when I saw them. They were no longer the emerald green they used to be, but a blood red.

"Creepy, right?" He asked.
"How do you do that?" I asked.
"It's my gift; I can read minds." I stared at him, open mouthed but then I was consumed by the thirst I felt. In a second I was off the bed, Miss to the air. I had never moved that fast before. That was impossible.

I was raving something, my only problem was I didn't know what. I was by the door in an instant, smelling something unresistable. Suddenly, Edward's arms were around me, holding me back as I strained to get through the door. "Carlisle." Edward spike at normal volume though the man, Carlisle was not within hearing range. Or maybe he was with this strange hearing.

"Let me go!" I yelled but froze with shock at the sound of my voice. It sounded like bells, like music, like nothing I had heard before.

Then another pair of arms were around me and I was controlled by the thirst in my throat. I was thrown backwards and I crashed into a big arm chair. The two men, Edward and Carlisle, stood blocking the door and, less than a second after thinking it, I was in a crouch on the desk.

"Amelia," Carlisle began. He had pale skin, like Edward's and blonde hair. His eyes were gold.
"What did you do to me?" I growled.
"Please allow me to explain." I did not relax my position.

Edward took a cautious step forward, hands raised, and sat down next to me. "It's okay, Emmy," he murmured. "You're safe here." Even though we were twins, Edward had always been protective of me.

"Yes," Edward said but why. No one have spoken. Carlisle left without another word.
"What was that about?" I asked Edward before my hand flew to my throat. It burned.

"I know Emmy," he said.
"How do you know?"
"I can read minds." My eyes widened and my jaw dropped.
"Since when?"
"Since the end of my transformation, so about two weeks ago."
"Transformation?" I asked. Edward nodded. "What are we?" I whispered.
"Vampires," he whispered back.

I didn't say anything. I collapsed off the desk. Edward caught me before I hit the floor. "Emmy, Emmy can you hear me?" He asked. I couldn't answer. I was frozen.

Carlisle was crouched on the floor next to us in an instant. He must have used his vampire speed. "What's wrong with her, Carlisle?" Edward asked.
"She's gone into shock," Carlisle explained.
"Shock?"
"Yes."

"Oh," Edward said a moment later. Carlisle must have thought something rather than said it out loud.

But then I was consumed by the burn in my throat and I was up and out of Edward's arms in an instant.

I ran full speed, which was incredibly fast, yet I could still see everything so clearly, and I was put the door before either of them could catch me.

The house was in a clearing surrounded by a forest and just as I reached the tree line I was tackled to the ground. "Emmy, stop!"
'Let go of me.' It was strange. I don't remember saying it out loud but Edward did exactly that. He stood up and stepped back and off I ran.

I could hear Carlisle speaking to Edward and a second later they were chasing after me but all I could think of was the thirst. I ran and then I pounced at the creature in front of me.

I sunk my teeth down into its flesh and the hot blood filled my mouth. I drank and drank until the creature ran dry. Only after I was finished and I stepped back did I realise it was a Coyote.

I was still thirsty but Edward and Carlisle were behind me so I turned to face them.
"Sorry," I said "I was just too thirsty.
"I get it," Carlisle said. "You are a newborn after all." I drew my eyebrows together in confusion. "You're thirst is harder to control when you're younger," he explained and I nodded.

"How did you do it?" Carlisle asked.
"Do what?" I asked.
"Make me let go of you," Edward said.
"I don't know, I thought 'let go of me' and you did."
"You thought something and he did it?" Carlisle asked. I nodded. That had happened, right?
"Oh my God," Edward said.
"What?" I asked just waning to know what they were getting at.
"Mind control," he whispered and my eyes widened. I couldn't have mind control. Why would I have mind control?
"It stems from some part of your human personality," Carlisle explained. "Edward must have always been sensitive to the thoughts of those around him."
"And people always did what you wanted them to," Edward added. "That was just who you were."
"Amelia," Carlisle said "you may be the most powerful vampire in the world."
