Treading lightly, she made her way thru the front door and up the stairs. And almost made it to her room when suddenly a harsh, slurred growl made the girl cower in fear. "Where the fuck have you been?" The awful stench of cigarettes and cheap liquor hit her so hard she forced herself not to gag. Her uncle John stood, swaying, at the bottom of the stairs and she immediately regretted not climbing thru her bedroom window to avoid him. She thought she could make it. But was obviously wrong...so wrong...
Before she could bolt upstairs away from him, he caught her by her long dark hair and gave a vicious yank. Before she could respond, she was already on the floor at his feet.
"Where were you, whore?" he screamed.
"I-I...oof!" A kick to the gut had her groaning a quick answer to calm his rage.
"School...I was in school, then work..." Tears silently trickled down her cheeks.
Uncle John didn't care, he slapped her hard across the face, shouting "Don't you lie to me you filthy little slut, its Saturday! You been out with boys sleeping around, right? You are a little tramp just like your mother was!"
As much as she wanted to defend her mother, who was NOT a tramp, she knew better and tried to explain to Uncle John that it was indeed Friday, not Saturday. He didn't believe her and gave her another slap for...well, he never really needs a reason to beat up the little beauty. He's done it so many times since her mom died and Uncle John was found to be the only living relative. He of course jumped at the chance to raise his dear sweet niece...of course, the monthly allowance he received til her 20th birthday was all the incentive he really needed. But once he set his eyes on the green doe eyed girl, with her plump pink pouty lips, curvatious body that was just right for her age...he felt like he was looking at her mother all over again, aka "the bitch who had left him for his bastard half brother". So without an ounce of guilt, he "graciuosly" took his adorable neice in...and prompty started the abuse. Mostly when he got drunk and thought it was his ex (her mom) that he was punishing. It started with a belt, until she got older then it turned into slaps, punches, kicks...
Seeing stars for a moment had her attention and beating the girl for whatever reason he had today was distracting him when a knock on the door got louder and louder until a banging rattled the place and his nerves. Someone wanted in, badly!
Once Uncle John realized someone was outside, he dropped her to peak out the window. She used this opportunity to bolt as fast as her battered body would take her to her room upstairs. She had no lock on the door, hell, it barely stayed on its hinges after Uncle kicked it in so often to beat her for various reasons. She slid to the floor and dried her tears thanking God that it was a light beating this time.
Uncle John was a terrible person. He was an abusive alcoholic, and only kept her for the money he received for her that she never saw. They lived in the bad part of town in a rented small house with chipping white paint. It was an old house in terrible need of repair. But for Uncle it was perfect. She walked to school at the community college every day and worked at a small diner part time., mostly to just to avoid coming home since he also took her paychecks as her "rent".
Mom died 5 years ago in a car accident and dad disappeared with his girlfriend when she was 13, leaving her alone and vulnerable to any relative that would claim her...that being her dads younger half brother whom the girl had never actually met before. Since mom had divorced dad, she was the sole recipient of her life insurance. Of which stated, the child shall receive a monthly sum to help her guardian raise her until she was 20 and she could then get the remainder of the life insurance...a half million dollars. Which is why, at 19, she is still living with her uncle...lack of funds to leave since he took all the money for himself. And of course, being his free meal ticket, the threat of death if she attempted to run away. Though she has tried, just never succeeded, only to be beaten harshly and wake up in the hospital with broken bones and some pitiful story about her falling down stairs...
Tearing her pitying thoughts away to focus on the noise down stairs, she realized that they were men's voices. She stood carefully and got closer to the stairs to try and hear what was going on and see who was here. What she saw gave her chills.
Men in black suits, 2 that she could see where wearing guns at their side and threatening her uncle to pay them back some kind of debt. Gambling again, no doubt. He had a terrible losing streak she had witnessed for years. He swore to them that the money would be here soon with their interest but insisted they wait another 2 weeks when "his inheritance" paid out. She knew immediately what he was referring to. She turned 20 in 2 weeks. The bastard was planning to steal my moms life insurance money that was for me, she thought! That was her greatest fear, because she had every intention of using that money to escape her uncle and maybe even hire an attorney to prosecute him!
Watching the men and trying to eavesdrop on them had her so distracted that she failed to notice a 3rd man inching towards her. By the time she heard the stairs creak, it was too late. He had snatched her from her hiding spot and dragged her petite self before the other men. They looked...amused. But my uncle looked entirely pissed, and a bit more sober once confronted by these men. He also looked a bit terrified. As the men in suits looked her over, one spoke.
"And who is this little beauty? Surely not yours" he sneered at Uncle John.
Looking up, she realized 2 things. One, he was most likely the most handsome man she had ever set eyes on, with his brown locks of hair swept back, piercing blue eyes that seemed to look into my soul, and a devilish smirk on his perfect lips. And two, he may be the last face she sees since he held a gun in his right hand casually waving it as he spoke. They stared at each other until she started shaking and cast her eyes downward submissively as she had learned to do with her uncle.
"Oh her. She's just my niece. No one important," uncle said offhanded. "Just a useless waste of space whore."
She cant say his words didn't hurt, but she dared not refute them. These men looked serious and ready to break kneecaps or shoot them both dead!
The handsome man was silent a moment as he looked her up and down. Then said with a deep silky voice that gave her shivers, "whats your name sweetheart?"
I hesitated briefly, "Mia" she whispered.
"Mia. Beautiful name for a beautiful girl..." He stood. "Pity you are associated with this piece of shit."
Feeling brave, she asked, "Whats your name?"He raised a brow and slowly smiled showing straight white teeth and answered politely, "Well thats Paul and the brute behind you is Conner. And I, baby girl, am James Sinclair, you may call me Sin."
She nearly fainted. She knew this guy was dangerous! James friggin Sinclair! Aka SIN! Arguably the richest and most dangerous man in the city! He owns several businesses, mostly bars and clubs, A few hotels last I heard about him, and anytime a murder is committed, you can almost always find Sin as a lead suspect, tho never prosecuted. Its rumored that the police are in his pocket. Tho Sinclair may front as a business man, he has less than legal dealings behind closed doors, ties to the mafia, and practically runs the dark side of the city!
And hes sitting in her Uncles friggin living room smirking at her!
