*15 Months Later*
"I just don't understand why you feel obligated to tell him." He spoke, "He obviously has no care for you anymore." Yandel pointed furiously to the television screen that was paused on a still of Cristiano and Lexis Santamaria walking hand in hand down the street we danced on.
On the far left hand corner, there was another of them in his car half naked and making out. In my mind, I ended things with Cristiano long ago, but in reality, he doesn't know nor seems to care.
Once I got to America, we talked everyday atleast five times a day, but soon they grew limited. My studies took over and soon Cristiano called less frequently. Starting from calling two times a day, to one, until he ended up not calling at all anymore. It grew awkward but I never gave up. I remember Anja calling me and telling me the dreadful news that Cristiano has been cheating on me for months. I have to admit, I didn't want to believe it, but more people started telling me.
Sergio and Marcelo were the 3rd and 4th ones to tell me. Now every time I see the news on the internet, theres a big ol fat picture of him with Lexis or another girl smiling while he's holding her intimately.
Nice to know that I was a little game for him. Not nice to know that my heart got broken. Two months later, I met Yandel, and honestly, he helped heal my heart and we've been together for almost a year now. Still, seeing Cristiano with someone else does hurt, but I know I'll get over it.
"I just don't think it's fair." I mumbled to the ground, never have I seen him so infuriated at me before. Cristiano was his soft spot since he knows that he was my boyfriend before and how I felt about him. I guess he was intimidated that he will take me away from him.
"Fair? Fair?!" He screeched, "Oh my God, she doesn't think it's fair." Then he turned to me and looked me straight in the eyes and saw the sadness I held. "Paige," He sighed, calming down immensely. "Look, I'm sorry, but you tell him about us will do nothing. Please, forget about him. He's worthless if he wants to cheat on a girl like you." Strong arms wrapped around my waist. "My world." In almost an instant, I felt myself melt and my heart speed up. "Okay, deal." I smiled warily.
A knock at our front door redirected our attention. "I'll get it." He let go of me hesitantly and sped to the door, opening it angrily. "Oh, Paige, it's Marina." He sighed knowing that now with Marina over, we won't have alone time for another few hours. The beautiful brunette bounced through the door and threw down two Starbucks cups and a donuts. "I saw another one." She pointed to the still frozen tv and let out a low growl. "Wait til he meets me!"
Marina was on defense for my football team and instantly became one of my best friends. Her being from Columbia gave us a lot in common considering that we were the only ones on the team who came from out of the country to play college footba- I mean soccer. She was gorgeous and I would often find myself envying her beauty. "No, Rina. He's scum that doesn't even bother me anymore. " I glanced at the Starbucks cups, "Is that for me?" She nodded quickly and handed one over. The warm cup burned my hand and gave me warmth and warmed my cold veins.
"Hope I wasn't interrupting?" She said before giggling like a little school girl, I rolled my eyes and shook my head. Yandel walked into the kitchen with his keys in hand and held them in the air. "I'm going shopping, need anything?"
"Not that I know of, but I'll give you a call if I do." He nodded and walked out of the kitchen, soon the door slammed. It was evident that he was still angry, but he will calm down eventually.
"So how are you guys?" She asked once she knew 100% that Yandel was gone. I shrugged and took a sip of my coffee, "Good I guess, he's not happy with me wanted to tell Cristiano about Yandel and I."
"I wouldn't be happy either! Paige, he did you wrong, really wrong. Forget him, he's not worth your time!"
"But-"
"No 'buts'! I don't want this whole Cristiano thing getting in your head."
"But what if he comes here? He's on a professional team you know, he travels like last year."
She scowled and shook her head, "That won't happen. Please forget about him, love. You got Yandel. It's almost been a year."
"Oh Mar, you act as if I still love Ronaldo."
"Do you not?"
"Nope."
"Good."
Suddenly, my phone started ringing in my pocket, "You need a new ring tone." Marina giggled. "It's so boring."
I shrugged and looked at the screen, "Unknown."
"Answer it." She egged on. "Speaker!"
My thumb tapped lightly on the green answer button.
"Hello?"
"Paige! Paige! Paige!" Marcelo gasped through the phone and in almost an instant, a smile grew on my face. "Marcelo? Its like midnight over there."
"Yes,but I can't sleep, I just heard you're head over heels with professional lacrosse player Yandel Martin."
"How?" I gave a suspicious look at a nonchalant Marina. "Marina?" I growled, she looked up and smiled sheepishly. "You never told me! Marina tells me, then me, Sergio and Cristiano saw it on the news."
Damn. Damn. DAMN!
"What did he say?" I grumbled. The line grew quiet and a few seconds later he cleared his throat, which in his case, he was preparing to lie. "Nothing."
"Don't lie."
He sighed heavily, "Fine, he seemed upset. But masked it by cuddling with Lexi. "
I couldn't help but fight a victory smile that was creeping on my face. "Good. He can deal with the fact that I'm done with his shit and that I wasn't going to wait anymore. Goodnight, Marcelo."
With no hesitation and no reply from Marcelo, I hung up and place my iPhone in front of a cheesing Marina. And for what seemed like months, my smile matched hers.
