|Twenty Nine|
I hadn't been shot before. I've been stabbed, beaten, finger sliced off, stitched, tied up, cat ears being sewn and burned into my skin, clawed at. But never shot.
Blood. That's what I smelt. The only thing I could smell. It was thick, haunting, like the smell was trying to gag me.
Where am I...?
I groaned, trying to force my eyes open - but exhaustion was too dominant, and I could barely flinch with the energy I had left. But I could hear voices around me, thick, as if through water. But slowly, the voices started to become clear.
"--getting Eu-Sui involved."
I heard her snarl. I could recognise her snarl from anywhere. "Don't look down at me."
"You tied up my son and beat him, broke his ankles. And now he's involved with all your shit."
"It's not like I had this planned from the start!"
"You were planning to kill him off like the rest of those boys you capture?"
"Stop trying to father me. I barely even know you."
"I know all about you, Miso Sasin."
There was dead silence.
"I know everything from you, to your father. I've met your father. Your father tried to kill me."
"What does that have to do with me? I have nothing to do with you."
"Are you blaming me for being protective of my son?"
"I am blaming you for starting to irritate me."
"Oh love, my wife was way more scarier than what you'll ever be. Don't try to act all 'macho' and tough will me. Because that doesn't affect me."
I heard her click her tongue. "I guess Eu doesn't get his shy nature from you."
"You don't know Eu if you think that's how he is."
There was dead silence. I didn't know where we were, or what was happening. The burning pain in my arm started up as a haziness started to take hold of my head.
"What I've heard, you haven't been much of a father" she spat.
"It's harder to be a father than you may think."
"You abandoned him!"
"Did he say that?"
"I--" she faulted.
"Eu can be shy around new people, shrinking within himself when trouble arises, not standing up for himself. But when someone else is involved, someone he cares about...something inside him flickers to life. This...beast. And he would kill for, and die for them. He can be fierce, witty, snarky."
There was a long pause, a pause which made my skin crawl.
"....he hates fruit..." I heard him murmur. "And he could snack on packeted chips for days on end...he loves western superhero movies and Japanese anime...has a slightly worrying obsession with violent games..."
Dad....
"Yu..." I heard Ah Rin murmur.
There was a silence again - but not like the rest. Not strained and full of tension, but a calm sort of settled quiet.
But that was all ruined as a bolt of pain ran through me. I gasped as I bolted up right, pain flashing through me. My vision was appalling, and I gripped my head as I struggled to keep upright.
