The moment I padded into the den, My sisters ambushed me. I was knocked onto my back while my sisters asked dumb questions like,
"Did the things try to eat you?"
"Did you make friends with one?"
"Did you use the Vine Paw on them?"
Okay, the last one wasn't so stupid. It was cool to have these powers at my command. But it was vital for me to find Daphne. And Morty, and my parents, of course!
That night, after everyone was asleep and dreaming, I was awake with my thoughts swirling through my mind at boggling speeds. I was wondering when I would see Daphne, Morty, and my old family again. I wished I could sit on my porch with Daphne again like we used to. I looked up and saw the stars overhead, dancing their twinkly dance. I turn to my side and see Daphne looking onto my eyes with the sparkle of her own. She takes my hand, and we stand up and run through the flowers to her house. We sit on the Porch swing like we always had as little kids. We swung back and forth, with the sun shining brightly on our faces. Her smile was as beautiful as it had ever been, if not more. I look upwards, to the sky, and see a single cloud in the sky. It starts to darken and grow, grow and grow until it is the blackest any cloud could be, if not blacker. I look over to Daphne and notice that she doesn't realize that the sky is darkening. I ignore the clouds for a moment. But as I start to say something to Daphne, the sky erupts into torrential song. Base Drums exploded into noise and trumpets sounded fiercely. The winds howled around us, like a clarinet in full tune. I hop off of the swing and swivel to grab Daphne's hand and lead her into the house. But as I take hold of her fingers, she starts to dissipate into the rain and wind surrounding us. I cry out in confusion and grief. I call out her name and start to race after the flecks of dust that were once Daphne. I collapse into the mud and slump and succumb to the inevitable.
I close my eyes to calm myself, and when I open them, I am back in the cave that was now my home. And that was the cycle for a while. Hunt, defend, dream of the past. So it went for a few months until the day came. It was winter, like any other. Of course, there was little prey, but we scraped by. Then, that night, MainFace gave the announcement.
"BerryTail and I know it has been a rough cold season for us all." he began. "We have made the decision to make a journey to a place where there will be plenty of prey for us all. We are not sure this place exists, but we remember what our ancestors have passed down to us for as long as we can remember." I knew this was coming. "By the time we get there, it will be time for you all to go your own ways. We understand that, and I hope you do too."
It had been about seven months since I was born, with my sisters. I knew that the day for us to leave our mother and father was coming soon. I guess I wasn't too eager about it though, because my heart sank when he delivered the news.
We spent our final day in the cave resting. We ate whatever prey we could find, and slept as much as possible. I didn't dream at all that night.
Chap...6
I'll say one thing-when Lilycub isn't having fun, she's making sure nobody else can either.
"There's a thorn in my pad!" "Can we go home now?" "Grasscub's tryina eat me!" "Why is Zinn just Zinn and not Zinncub?" "FOOD"!
I'll admit, her last demand was relateable. There isn't much prey around this area. I could swear that I had a tiger living inside my belly the way it was rumbling.
"Mama...?" Grasscub muttered. "There's an earthquake in my belly. Can we please eat soon?"
I felt really bad for her. I didn't complain, but I was just as hungry as they were. I turned my head around as I tasted the air, searching for a scent that would feed my family.
