The cries of the tortoiseshell she-cat were sad. "Holly died..." She stammered. "A-And Poppy and Mint already died...I just-" She was interrupted by an orange cat that pressed his flank against hers. The tortoiseshell purred. "What if...Sky and Sunny die? A-All our kits are dying..."
"I'm not sure, Honey. You must keep faith in StarClan!" The flame pelted tom spoke.
"Oh, Flame...w-what if greencough kills one of us? If I can't feed our kits-" Honey was interrupted by the strong wind and slow drops of water. Flame tasted the air and it was damp!
"Rain! Get the kits inside!" Flame shouted as the rain began to pour rapidly now. Flame grabbed Sky and Honey grabbed Sunny and they ran from on the dirt on an open clearing, towards a cave where there was stored food and tunnels for dens. Sky sneezed at the cold air.
Flame placed Sky down on a bedding of moss and he grabbed leaves to dry her off with. Honey was panting and finally made it inside with Sunny's eyes closed tightly and she laid curling up tightly. Honey placed Sunny down and her golden and brown fur was bristled. Honey grabbed leaves and started drying off Sunny, who was shivering.
Flame started licking Sunny and Sky looked over at all the attention going to her sister. "I'm cold...I'm hungry...why a-are you s-so worried a-about her?" Sky mewed in complaint.
Honey hissed. "Your sister is almost completely frozen! She won't even open her eyes! I can't believe how SELFISH you are!" Honey spat and angrily flicked her tail. Sky's complaining face turned into saddened expression. Thunder rumbled and Sky let out a scared mew.
Sky ran into a random tunnel and ran and ran until her legs wouldn't keep going. Sky collapsed and she started weeping. She was in a dark tunnel and only her glowing eyes could be seen. Why was mother like that to me? And why is Sunny so important? Questions and jealousy rushed through Sky's head as more thunder rumbled. Sky closed her eyes but felt a pulse of air let out of her mouth. She tried to breath in more but failed. Sky gasped for air as she heard the fast paw steps of Flame and Sunny, followed by Honey.
She took her last blink and saw Sunny curiously running and Flame mumbling something and Honey ran and saw Sky laying there, now dead. "M-Mommy...what's w-wrong with s-sister?"
Honey hissed at her and ran to Sky's side. Sky's bristled fur was cold and so was her heart. Honey laid there weeping while Sunny walked over curiously and sniffed Sky. Flame walked forward and grabbed Sunny's scruff and carried her back to the warmth of the fire in the biggest den in the cave.
Sunny closed her eyes and fell peacefully asleep. Flame spoke as Honey approached. "The rain stopped. I'm going hunting! Take care of Sunny!"
Honey just dipped her head and looked through her pile of herbs. Flame walked out and saw a tiny rabbit. He pounced on it and sunk his teeth deep into it's flesh. He buried it and walked along a path of a mouse's scent. He saw a gray mouse and another white one. He pounced on it and sunk his teeth into it. The other managed to escape, yet Flame just buried the mouse and moved on.
Flame was approaching and open moor and saw a huge and fast rabbit! He slowly crouched down and tried to pounce, but the rabbit quickly scurried away. He tasted the air. Twigs...babies of some sort...
Then suddenly, a bird squawked and swooped down to get Flame. He jumped at the sound of the squawking and started running back into the forest. Flame wasn't watching the sky and the bird found his chance to strike. The bird swooped down and dug his claws deeply into Flame's pelt.
Flame hissed and tried to get away, but the bird's grip was too strong. The hawk dug it's grip even more and Flame let out a painful yowl. Flame got free and was dropped close to the cave. Flame yowled in pain and laid there.
Sunny's ears went up at the sound of Flame's yowling and she ran outside with Honey chasing her. Sunny managed to get far enough and stopped in her tracks when she saw her father lying on the ground with so much blood seeping out.
"D-Daddy? W-What h-happened?" Sunny mewed as she rubbed her fur against his.
"A h-hawk-" Flame spoke as Honey came running to see Flame laying there.
"A hawk attacked you? Are...are you ok? Oh, Flame! Please...you-you can't die on me now! P-Please..." Honey mumbled sadly.
"It is my time...take care of Sunny...promise me!" Flame spoke his last words, took his last breath, then closed his eyes.
"FLAME!" Honey shouted and yowled. Honey rubbed her nose onto his pelt. She suddenly got a pulse of emotion change.
"Thanks alot StarClan! You really saved him!" Honey shouted angrily and sarcastically.
"Is daddy okay?" Sunny spoke quietly. Honey hissed and let out a low growl.
"You're father...is DEAD! And...and we're never talking about this! EVER!" Honey screamed and grabbed Sunny, hard by the scruff.
"Ow!" Sunny mewed as Honey sunk her teeth into her flesh. Honey padded away and stomped angrily the whole trip back. Until, Honey had a pulse of emotions, rushing through her head. Honey turned around and headed towards the forest, farthest from the moor. About a decent travel distance.
Once they got there, Honey laid Sunny down gently and told Sunny to go to sleep. Sunny closed her eyes and rested by her mother's warm pelt, even though her mother's heart was as cold as ice. Honey laid there for while, until she decided to leave.
Honey stood up and walked away. She decided she had enough loses. I can't just take care of this kit by myself! I'm leaving! So, Honey walked back to the cave and left Sunny to die on her own.
