I tried to stay out of RM's radar the next day.
I really did try.
To the best of my abilities.
However, it wasn't meant to be. Clearly, the universe had it all planned out. I crept out of my room while dragging my bag quietly, and barely got past the next door before the door drew open and a familiar dimpled face was in my line of sight.
"Hey neighbour!"
I took a look at him and fled, dragging my suitcase behind me, jumped into the closest lift and pressed for the lift. Namjoon laughed as he followed me, his eyes seeming to vanish into small crescents.
"Are you running away from me?"
"Umm, I am just in a hurry."
"Oh, then let's catch a ride downstairs together."
I blushed as I tried to ignore him. The urge to look at him more than once was forcing pressure on the side of my face that was closest to my shoulder, so I was steadily turning towards him slowly.
It was Kim Namjoon! For heaven's sake!
"Let's take a picture together!" He said smiling.
"Um... Sure..."
"You sound doubtful. That's a first. Is everything okay?"
"Uh... Well... I just-"
My phone suddenly rang, and I checked the caller ID. It just so happened to be Dr. Li, and since I had been expecting her call, I didn't know whether to pick it or to cut the conversation short.
I chose the latter.
"Um, Namjoon, can we talk later? Maybe in an hour's time?"
"I'll come find you."
That was actually pretty reassuring. I smiled at him and he shook my hand before leaving. I hang around after he got off the lift and talked to my supervisor about any news she might have.
"I know this is very sudden, but we need to fly you to Bhutan for a conference in a month's time. I called to give you the heads-up. This time, you will be presenting a paper about your project. I hope you still have those photos you sent me in your reports?"
"Uh... Sure."
"Great! You'll go with Richard and I look forward to seeing your project featured. Do a good job and make UNEP proud, okay?"
I had already drawn up an outline on my idle days back at the camp, so making the paper would not be too hard, right?
I stood there looking confused before realizing I actually had somewhere else to go. "Well Raina, get ready for an amazing moment to prove that desert afforestation is possible."
