(please ignore blue hightlight, i can get it off)
I see Kate as she comes into the room in her wheel chair. Her hair falls over her eyes. She wears a t-shirt and a pair of faded black leggings. She isn't afraid to show her scars or the bruises that pattern her arms in purple and blue. A friend pushes her up to her desk and pushes a book into her hands. She opens it and begins to run her fingers along the pages silently.
No one asks her why, how or who. Not because we're nice or polite but because we know. We know what happened and we know not to speak of it, because we know to say something was shunted by all. No longer welcome by anyone.
I remember, we all remember that day. For us who were there it's burnt into our memories like a hot poker straight from the fire.
I remember being in art class and beginning to feel tired and I end up falling asleep. I dream of happiness and love only to wake to the sound of course laughter and the screams and cries of my class mates. I keep my eyes shut. I don't want to see what's happening.
"Hey!!" Someone near me shouts. "I think this one's awake" even though I can't see them I know their talk about me. I open my eyes and sit up, ready to jump off my chair and run, but I can't. My arms and legs are tied to the chair. How the hell did I not notice that? I try to yank the rope free, but no luck.
I see someone come towards me laughing and holding a whip in his hand. I cry out as I feel the whip come down on my shoulder and hear him laugh again. I know that laugh and I know that voice but his face is hidden. I can't see. He brings the whip down again. I scream and yank at the ropes, but this time the chair tips and falls. Whacking my shoulder against the hard ground.
He kneels down beside me and whispers in my ear.
"Sorry Emma, but your just too pretty to survive". This time he brings his fist back aiming for my face.
"NO!" I scream as I cover my face from the blow, but it doesn't come. He's facing away from me back towards the centre of the room. Then I hear it. I hear yells and shout to stop her, but to stop who. Someone comes towards us and grabs the guy's shoulder and hauls him up and toward the commotion. Telling him to help.
I struggle to get up to see what's going on. I wriggle my head around the table and see it. It was a girl with long brown hair fighting. She had so much anger in her movements and in the set of her face. She fought cut people free. I watched as she freed someone with a knife that she held in her hand and tells them to run, but they only sit there and shake in fear as the girl runs off to free someone else.
This time it's a guy. He short black hair and an Asian appearance. She seems to know him and struggle to free him. His mouth has been taped over but his eyes speak for him.
"Leave me" They say "leave me, and save the others" She shouts something to him that I can't make out. The ropes come loose and he nods. Then they're both off. I watch the boy goes over to other and untied them, but like the other girl they stay there frozen in a state of fear.
I look away just in time to see someone coming towards me. They bend down and begin to cut away at my ropes. They're long brown hair brushes my cheek as she looks up at me. I sudden realization hit me. This is the girl reeking all this havoc, but she couldn't have done it!
"Kate?!"
