"Where's she? Hmmh?", she asked playing with my palm just like in those days. Some things never change.I was so absorbed in watching her making circles on my palm with her delicate fingers that she had to squeeze my palm to bring me back to earth.
"Earth to Ananth?"
Oh, so she did ask me that and I didn't hallucinate it. Fine. Wait! Why would she ask about her? I thought that that would be the last thing on her list to talk to me about, now that we meet after a long long time...Wouldn't talking about Aisha hurt Sania's feelings?
"She's at her mother's doing some of the work", I replied avoiding eye contact because I'm damn sure she'd know that I'm lying.
"Work huh? Shopping for the wedding, isn't she? It's okay you can tell me", she whimpered. Her lips quivered as she spoke those words like she was about to cry but I know that she wouldn't cry at least not in front of me.
Well, I see there's nothing to hide. How does she know about the wedding? Oh yes! Instagram! How dumb? She seems to take all my senses away.
Taking a glance at the white room, the green curtains, the iv stand that had the saline. How did she end up like this? Why had been called to inform about her accident? I wanted to ask her but she had just been in a life-threatening situation just a few hours ago."What is it? What are you thinking?", she implied me while sipping her glass of water.
"Why was I called instead of your kin?", I asked confused.
She had an elder brother, father, two uncles and still, I was the one who was contacted."Does it matter? We're here, we're together and that's all that matters to me. Your contact was on speed dial and my phone's locked, so...", she said shrugging her shoulders.
Suddenly, my phone buzzed, and I discover it was Aisha. Just the time, right!
Putting it aside, I turned to Sania, who needed me more than Aisha. After we prate an hour, I discovered that Sania had turned into a chai addict and that's incredulous.
My phone had buzzed for the tenth time still vibrated vigorously."Answer it, she must be worried", Sania explained and handed me my mobile.
"No need. I tracked you down", in burst an infuriated Aisha, "Have any idea what's happening?"
I realised that she was crying and tears came rolling down uncontrollably.
"Come, right now! Leave her! I thought she was a derelict chapter in your story?"
Being neutral to the snide comment seemed to be a smart choice. I looked at Sania and she nodded her head at me.
Her parents had arrived, so I left.Through the window, I saw her struggling before her parents. Maybe tired of all this. Of me!
If only I could express how I felt for you even today... Wish I could tell you...xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
