Frank shifts in his spot on the log bench, burying himself deeper into Gerard's blanket that smells like a mix of his cologne and campfire. He looks up at the stars painting the dark void of the night sky, smiling at the millions of little constellations, the orange hue from the campfire in front of him taking over his view and adding more color to the gorgeous canvas of the night.
Frank loves camping. He's always loved camping, even when he was a little kid. Sitting outside in the dark of the night by the glowing campfire always gave him a feeling of comfort and safety. It was his happy place, and what made it so much better this time was the fact that now, he gets to share it with the one he loves most.
A sudden groan of defeat coming from behind Frank breaks him from his thoughts as the sound of a duffle bag zipping closed fills his ears over the sound of the crackling fire.
"Babe, where are the marshmallows?" Gerard basically whines causing Frank to snicker.
Reaching beside him, Frank holds up the bag of marshmallows over his head to show Gerard. "Right here, Gee," he says, dangling the bag in the air.
Gerard groans, shuffling towards Frank and taking the bag from his extended hand. "No wonder I couldn't find it," he mutters sourly, plopping down beside Frank on the log bench. "You got to it first."
Frank giggles, tossing half of the blanket over his boyfriend's lap to share with him, which he happily accepts. "Probably would've helped if you brought a flashlight with you, you know?"
Gerard leans over to briefly kiss Frank's temple, cupping his cheek to pull him in close, earning an appeased sigh from Frank's lips and the flutter of his eyes shutting briefly from the suddenness of the kiss before he then works to tear open the plastic off the marshmallow bag. "Thanks, captain obvious. I had no idea."
Frank laughs, still a little breathless from the brush of Gerard's lips, looking up at him with a cheeky grin. "Anytime dingus," he smirks causing Gerard to groan and roll his eyes dramatically.
Gerard rips open the marshmallow bag, tossing the plastic into the fire despite Frank's protests about how that's not good for the environment. Frank pouts at Gerard's actions, crossing his arms over his chest under the blanket as Gerard pulls a marshmallow out of the bag and grabs one of the sticks he and Frank had collected before it got too dark out for the specific reason of roasting marshmallows.
Gerard pierces the sharp end of the stick through the bottom of the marshmallow, then looking over at Frank who is all snuggled up in his blanket. Gerard grins a toothy grin. "Can I roast you a marshmallow, Sugar?"
Frank's hazel eyes meet Gerard's hazel eyes (A/N At the end there is a description of their eyes that my friend gave me :) ) as he shrugs and smiles gently, giggling quietly at the nickname. Even in the vast darkness of the night, Gerard can still see the light blush spreading across Frank's cheeks through the orange hues of the fire. "Sure. Knock yourself out."
Gerard chuckles as he leans over his knees to be closer to the burning fire. Gerard can feel the warmth of the flames kissing at his whole face making him smile, the smell of smoke engulfed his senses.
Frank looks back up at the sky again, watching as the smoke from the campfire meets the horizon of the stars in the sky. It's a pretty sight, one Frank has always enjoyed to the fullest whenever he was out camping. After a short minute or two, Gerard is tapping on Frank's shoulder to get his attention.
Frank brings his gaze back to the one thing he finds more beautiful than the night sky as Gerard grins. "Finished your marshmallow. Here," he says proudly, pointing at the end of the stuck with the gooey treat on it towards Frank.
Frank smiles, not letting his eyes leave Gerard's as he admires how gorgeous his boyfriend looks with the silhouette of the fire behind him. "That was fast. Normally it takes more time than that to get the perfect-" But Frank jolts back, squealing and scrunching up his nose in disgust. "Eeew! Gerard, it's burnt!" He screeches causing Gerard to erupt into a fit of laughter.
"Whaaaaat?" Gerard giggles, laughing at Frank's disgusted expression. "Burnt is the best way to have marshmallows, don't you think?" Frank stares at Gerard in disbelief, sticking his tongue out and gagging, "Absolutely not! Gerard, that's disgusting! Burnt marshmallows taste like charcoal!" "Sweet charcoal," Gerard counters. "But, fine, if you don't want my marshmallow, I'll just eat it," Gerard said, pulling the crusty outer shell of the burnt marshmallow off the stick as Frank crosses his arms and watches Gerard warily, his face still scrunched up, eyebrows furrowed in detest.
Frank gags and nearly vomits as Gerard pops the crusty treat in his mouth and hums in satisfaction as he chews. Frank looks away from him, hardly able to hold his dinner at just the mere sight of the marshmallow, nonetheless watching Gerard eat it happily.
Gerard swallows the treat and looks back over at Frank making a happy humming sound as he grins. "Delicious! Just how I like it!" Frank frowns and shakes his head. "You're disgusting, Gerard. Seriously, I don't see how you can actually like eating marshmallows like that."
Gerard giggles, then smirking at Frank. "If you hate it that much show me what you think the perfect marshmallow looks like." "Fine, maybe I will," Frank says, accepting Gerard's challenge.
And that's how the rest of the night went; Frank and Gerard arguing over whether burnt marshmallows or golden brown marshmallows were the best, bickering like little children. This went on until eventually, Gerard became so worn out that he fell asleep cuddled up against Frank's side, the blanket draped over both of their laps. And this, Frank had to say, is the number one reason why camping is his happy place.
---------------------------------------------
A/N So the marshmallows they used were Dandies marshmallows cause those are a type of vegan marshmallows. I also asked my friend to describe Gee's eyes and they said, "Sometimes green, sometimes brown, but all the time beautiful. They fit his face perfectly, a bit of eyeliner makes them pop but he doesn't need any makeup to make them look strikingly beautiful. They get a little sparkle when he laughs (I could go on and on about his laugh, too) and shimmer when his eyes get watery, still looking beautiful but in a sad way like the Mona Lisa or a wilting flower." and for Frank's they said, "Green with brown in the iris and little strikes going all the way throughout the pupil and swirling around, it's like the color never stops moving. They're slightly big but fit him like his skeleton gloves. In certain lighting, they look dark, but they are a bright green, like an olive in the sunlight or under a bright light. They always seem to have a little bit of a little sparkle to them but that only grows when he gets excited or happy, but it goes dull and transitions to a small shimmer when he gets sad, and I don't like him being sad. Those eyes are like windows to your own soul, not his. It's like he's reading you through and through, like a book cover to cover, but that's what draws you in. It's like a forest, drawing you in but then getting lost for what seems like forever."
