"How come you won't trust her to me?" His mother asked in a slight hurt, curious, and agitated tone. Her son paced the floor before her in thought, his snow silver hair swaying gently with each elegant, thoughtful step he took. His boots made a soft thump sound with every step on the hardwood floor, but thanks to his careful steps ensuring he wouldn't wake the child in the other room, they remained quiet.

"Tell me, mother, have you ever raised a human child at all?" He asked her, stilling for a moment so their golden eyes could meet in the softly lit room, the silver embrace dancing down from the moon kissed them ever so gently to try and keep peace in the tense air. His mother's eyes narrowed for a moment.

"I raised you." She spoke calmly.

"I asked if you raised a human child, not I." Sesshomaru quickly contorted before walking in front of her, his hands resting behind him properly, a calm look in his eye. However, his mother knew better, he saw the same look in his father's eyes before. Worry, stress, seriousness, and slight anger pooled in his golden eyes like a witch's brew that would only lead to disaster.

"I have not." She finally answered truthfully.

"This the reason for not trusting her to you." He spoke before turning, ready to return to his sleeping quarters to ponder on what action he would take some more alone.

"You seemed to be just fine raising her, yet, you've never raised a child of your own. Let alone a human child." His mother spoke with a slight and soft laugh near the end. He stopped in his tracks glancing at his mother over his shoulder.

"I never stated the fact of me trusting myself with her." He then turned his gaze away once more walking out of the grand hall.

"I see." His mother whispered under her breath. As the demon lord entered his chambers, he was met with a very familiar face.

"M-M'Lord, I have some i-important news!" The small green imp stuttered out nervously. Sesshomaru closed his eyes letting out a deep but steady breath through his pale lips.

"And the news?" He spoke softly, a little irritated at the interference this late.

"H-Human trade, sir." He opened his eyes.

"Human trade?"

"Yes, M-M'Lord. It seems the human villages ran by Sora, Kōri, Kemuri, Shizen, Kirameku, and Yami are partaking in this event every year, taking female humans from all over just to trade them off to whatever demon wants them for whatever reason to keep demons off their backs!" Sesshomaru thought for a moment.

"Who wanted this to be brought to my attention?" He asked.

"Chikara, M'Lord." Jaken answered in hopes his lord's anger of being disturbed so late at night.

"Female humans." Sesshomaru whispered under his breath in thought. Then his serious look came back.

"When is this taking place?"

"From the information given, tomorrow night, the dawn of a new year, according to the trading system."

"Very well, tell Chikara he will accompany me, I'd like to see this for myself." Jaken gave a surprised look before bowing quickly.

"R-Right away M-M'Lord!" Before he could scamper out the door Sesshomaru gave him a harsh look.

"Do not disturb me for the rest of the night." He growled making the imp grow pale.

"O-O-Of c-course M'L-Lord!" With that, he left in a hurry.

'A female human trade, to think humans were so desperate.' Sesshomaru thought before deciding, instead of staying up all night in thought, he'd get proper rest.
