Richie
Jane got on my nerves the instant I got there. I just wanted to dance with my friends but she wasn't having it. She was wearing an ugly dress, which I would've found pretty on Bev or anyone but her.
I was made to slow dance with her while I watched Eddie sit at a table next to Stan, laughing.
"I wanna dance with someone tonight. Don't care who, how about you, Stan?" Eddie had joked in the car.
I asked Jane to ask one of her friends to offer him a dance but she didn't.
"Come on. Don't be a bitch." I scoffed, still dancing.
"My friends don't want to dance with someone like him, they're all probably taller than him." she laughed coldly.
"Hey, that's my best friend. Watch it." I narrowed my eyes at her and dropped my hands from her waist.
"Richie I was just joking." He rolled her eyes.
"Well it's not funny. I need a smoke." I turned my back toward her and marched out the doors to the empty parking lot. Cars were parked but everyone was already inside when I sat down on the step and lit a cigarette.
Talk about my best friend like that. Who does she think she is?
"Hey stranger." I heard the door slam shut as Eddie sat on the step next to me, smiling. I blew smoke out of the corner of my mouth, away from him. His asthma.
"Have you got your dance yet?" I smiled.
"No, how's your date going?"
"Horrible, honestly."
Eddie let out a small laugh and it fell quiet between us other than the music blaring from inside.
"Richie, I'm really sorry for the other night and how I've been acting lately. You're my best friend and -"
"I dont want to talk about it." And I didn't. I didn't see the need to address the elephant when I didn't care anymore. Eddie and I were back to our bullshitting selves.
"Okay." He nodded and turned his gaze to the stares above us. He looked so beautiful. It was like nothing mattered except him and the cigarette in between my lips.
He had to feel me staring cause he snapped his eyes back to me and snapped, "What're you staring at, four eyes?"
"You look good." I said quickly. I meant to say it this time. He looked over at me and smiled softly.
"I know," He grinned. I playfully punched his arm.
"I would've let you wear green." He said abruptly, but it made me smile.
"I know." I said softly. I put my cigarette out and stood from the steps, holding my hand out.
"Dance with me?"
"Serious?"
"Say yes before I change my damn mind." I grinned. He smiled wide and took my hand. I didn't know what song was playing but it was nice. I pulled Eddie close to me and placed my hands on his waist.
"Leave room for Jesus, trashmouth."
I laughed and he laid his head on my chest. I rested my chin on the top of my head just for a minute or two. This contact. It was nice. Something I had never felt before.
I looked down at Eddie, who had shut his eyes and was smiling softly.
He looked up at me when he felt me pull him closer. I slowly took my glasses off, not caring anymore because god damn it, I was dancing with Eddie Kaspbrak and he was smiling.
"Richie what're you-"
"Eddie. Shut up." I dead panned before leaning down and pressing a chaste kiss to Eddie's lips. I felt my heart jump.
Oh god, I'm gonna have a heart attack right here.
I didn't think he was going to kiss back for a second but his hands were soon enough on my face softly as he kissed back. Our mouths moved in sync and I smiled against the kiss and I could feel him smiling.
The music changed to something upbeat and he pulled away, childishly twirling.
"Eddie..." But he had grabbed my hands and was dancing ridiculously. I watched him with a soft gaze. He was grinning stupidly.
"Eddie, I really want to kiss you again."
"Shut up and dance, Tozier."
