“Isn’t this dress perfect Katie?”

                “You’re going to homecoming Katie?”

                “Katie?” Again.

“What about me Katie? Look for me in the crown Katie.”

“Katie!” A third time jolted the girl out of her seat; Katie turned her slightly tanned face toward the voice, her best friend Megan. As Katie scanned Megan with her brown eyes Katie noticed Megan’s hands were on her hips, and she was scowling at Katie.

“I’m sorry, what did you say?” Katie asked as Megan rolled her hazel eyes and grabbed Katie’s limp hand, pulling Katie to her knees to Katie was fully standing off of the couch and dragged the girl to a dressing room. Megan shoved Katie into the small space and wagged her finger at Katie, “Stay,” Megan commanded and left Katie to stare at herself in the mirror whilst Megan ran off to grab clothes.

Katie reached up to touch her cheek and pulled her cheeks up to makeshift smile, before releasing her cheeks and sighing. She just couldn’t be happy, it was impossible. She didn’t want to go to Homecoming tomorrow; she didn’t want to try on a last minute dress and go and do makeup. She wanted to crawl into a ball and read books or watch a movie.

“Here Katie, I found some clothes for you, take them.” Megan spoke as she threw handfuls of dresses over the top of the door and Katie grabbed them just in time so they wouldn’t hit the floor.

“Try them on and show me how drop dead gorgeous you are.” Megan sang as her voice got smaller and smaller, indicating that Megan was leaving. Katie touched the first dress and tried on the blue ruffling dress that had a heart shaped cut in the back, before fanning out around her feet.

“No.” Katie said and immediately stripped herself of the dress, throwing it into the pile of first glance reject dresses. The same pattern continued until she came with two dresses she liked, a brown dress that had a darker brown sash that was tied into a bow in the back, or a blue dress that had little ruffles here and there with a blue bow, practically the same dress just two different colors and ruffles.

As Katie contemplated about the dresses Megan’s voice rang out in frustration. “Katie! Are you trying on the dresses? I told you to try them on!” Megan said and Katie softly shook her head at her friend.

“I am, I just forgot to come out and show you, but I’ll show you the dresses and you can help me pick which one looks better.” Katie said and Megan sighed.

“I personally think the brown one is better Katie, but no matter what you choose, you’ll look beautiful.” A male voice rang out and Katie’s eyes widened and she spun around in the dressing room to look for the voice, stepping out to look outside of the dressing room and ignored Megan’s raised eyebrow before sheepishly laughing.

“Sorry,” Katie said and Megan just shook her head in laughter.
