“Where am I….?” Katie asked herself as she looked around as she held onto the rose tightly, pushing past the multi-colored leaves wet with dew, as if it’s early morning; although the heat and the half hidden sun in the sky said different. Katie moved along the ground steadily, stepping over twigs and careful to avoid the oddly shaped bugs on the ground, squealing when one flies into her face. As Katie fell backwards, she felt the tug of the rose and sighed annoyingly. ‘It wasn’t her fault a bug flew onto her face’ she thought as she pulled off the bug and tilted her head in confusion.
“It’s not a bug….” She murmured as a voice cried out with disgust.
“I am most certainly not a bug! How dare you!” The thing cries out and lands on Katie’s face, trying to leave claw marks as Katie gives a sharp gasp and picks off the thing off her face.
“Ow! I’m sorry; I’m kind of new here!” Katie shouted and whatever it was, huffed before moving back so Katie could see clearly once again. It was pixie shaped, like a fairy; it had a pink glow around it and if Katie squinted she could see the outline of a body, shadowed by the glow.
“Umm….. What are you?” Katie asked and the pixie gasped in shock.
“I am a Firefly, my name is Geth. Born from the depths of Loweth Mountain!” The ‘Firefly’ said with somthing that sounded like great proudness in her voice.
“A…. Firefly? But I thought fireflies were bugs that-.” Katie started but Geth interrupted with a scoff.
“Animals and their close-minded classifications.” She said, tsking at Katie. Katie just shrugs and Geth sighs.
“Well, it’s the first creature I’ve run into contact today that hasn’t tried to eat me, where are you going?” Geth asks and Katie shrugs again, looking down at the rose.
“I’m following this rose, it’s leading me somewhere.” Katie said and Geth flies back a bit.
“Uh huh…” Geth skeptically says and looks down at the rose.
“That’s some flower then, wait….. Oh my god, can I join you?” Geth asks and Katie looks up in confusion, tilting her head at the Firefly.
“What are you talking about? It’s just….” Katie starts but Geth interrupts her. “-Not just a flower! I can smell it now! I thought my senses were acting up but it isn’t. So can I come?” Geth asks and Katie nods, unsure of what just happened.
“Yeah sure, I mean, whatever floats your boat.” Katie says and Geth squeals. Flying in a circle around Katie’s head while Katie laughs at Geth.
As they walk with Katie leading the way, Geth decides to ask a question that’s been bothering her for some time.
“Hey Katie,” Geth starts and Katie answers with an ‘hmm?’ Geth then nods and continues.
“What are you? I mean, I can’t really catch the scent that’s coming off of you, it’s flowery.” Geth says and Katie responds with “human” Geth gasps and Katie turns around, wondering why Geth looks like she’s seen Jesus.
“A human? Oh! A human! This is so neat! Oh wow! There are no humans, just in a secluded location that no other creatures other than humans know. I thought I would die before ever getting the chance to see a human, and Fireflies live for a thousand years.” Geth said, landing on Katie’s shoulder and Katie widens her eyes.
“Is that where the rose is taking me?” Katie asks and Geth shrugs, “Most likely, I mean, where else would a rare flower be taking a rare creature.” Geth said and tilted her head at Katie.
“Say, it’s like you’re new here. Are you newbie, because I know no human would be caught dead outside in the forest.” Geth said and Katie looks straight ahead. “But what about that human there?” Katie asks and Geth widens her eyes, before covering her ears and yelling at Katie “Cover your ears!”
Katie covers her ears just as the ‘human’ opens its mouth and screams, everything around it dying and decaying. The human hums and walks past them, eyes not leaving them just in case the two put their hands down, it’s golden blue eyes piercing into Katie’s brown ones. It finally walks away and Geth sans the surroundings once more just in case and sighs, putting her hands to her side and flies off of Katie’s shoulders, stopping just in front of Katie’s nose.
“That was a Goaustie, they’re really dangerous and can rarely be beaten, always cover your ears check twice just in case they get sneaky and decide to stay in a spot behind you. Got it?” Geth asks and Katie nods, still staring at the spot where the Goaustie screamed.
“That’s insane.” Katie breathes out and Geth sighs.
“You really are new here. I wonder how though, no one ever leaves Wondermare.” Geth says and Katie decides not to say anything on the matter. Keeping silent on the notion for telling Geth that she was from this wonderful place called Earth. But Katie decided that she would tell Geth a bit later.
Nah.
“Geth I’m from Earth.” Katie said and Geth stopped, tilting her head.
“What the hell is earth?” Geth asks and Katie sighs. Never mind.
“Don’t worry about it Geth, let’s just keep walking.” Katie says and Geth just laughs, setting herself onto Katie’s shoulder once more.
They walk for bit, reaching the surprisingly calm river. As Katie voiced that speculation Geth laughed and lightly slapped Katie, at least Katie thought it was a slap. She didn’t really feel anything.
“Not everything in Wondermare is crazy!” Geth laughs out, and Katie raises an eyebrow before shaking her head. Geth starts to fly over the river and Katie looks around, coming to an assumption that there’s nothing for her to cross with.
“Ummm…” Katie starts and shrugs, slowly moving her feet towards the river itself. The river feels cool on her sweaty skin and she sighs, almost closing her eyes to float when she realized that she had to keep moving, and sighed once more. She wades through the water, watching the bright blue ripples and giggled as the plants tickle her feet when she brushed past them, watching as the lush green plants sweep along her feet.
As Katei played with the water walking across the river, something crept up behind her, taking a quick sniff of the girl and grinning, sinking himself further back into the water as she went deeper and deeper, making even him unseen in the murky parts of the water. He swam around her feet, careful not to touch her.
