We've always been held to high expectations, May and I. The names' Hailey. Pretty weird name for a guy, am I right? It's my eighteenth birthday, and just about every time, I make a wish to the Star Gods, Ishkar and Malikshikizar. Under the bright sky, where the "zzzzzzzz" of cicadas is all you can hear besides the chirping of birds and the creek's water. The lush pink blossoms of our garden's late spring trees bring back memories about May and myself playing out here like crazy in our shorts and sailor looking tops. Good times. And they were much more common until father got re-married to Adia, our current 'mother'.
I sat there reading a good book called "The Never-Ending Sunset" by John Lashner, a 1967 author. It's about how this boy set out on a quest to find his long lost love, Hailey. It made me curious about what this boy looked like because they never said his name or his appearance, only Hailey's. Currently, the mysterious boy I called Misty, is stranded on an island where he's still trying to build a boat. He built the boat and set sail for Europe right after.
I was reading calmly and then "SHIT!" I flipped the page where I think Misty was about to find Hailey but then a fricking bird pooped on my page.
May: Ha Ha! Hailey, your father is calling you to dinner now.
Hailey: Ugh, brother, may you please get me something to clean up my book?
May: Get it yourself faggot
Hailey: FUCK YOU TOO, HALF PEASANT!
I got up and remembered all the good times we had under these very blossom trees.
Hailey: Do you still remember
May: Remember what?
Hailey: The day I k-
Allanbert: Young Master,
Hailey: Allan, you're only fourteen. Please, just call me Hailey from now on.
Allanbert: Yes, Young Master. Um, Hailey, your father is calling you in for dinner. May I escort you and your brother?
Hailey: Yes, Allan.
Allan is ambidextrous and has dancing freckles on his face. He has one amber eye and a pure light-blue eye that makes you fall in love with him at first sight. And then there's his dashing red hair that appears to be waving around in the wind like a hungry fire spreading fiercely around the land. He is one hell of a looker. On the other side, there's May. A scrawny half-blood who doesn't even know how to take care of his fair face.
We arrived at our house and departed from Allan for now. They cut me a cake and celebrated my birthday. We had a big feast and made my birthday public.
May kept kicking me under the table. I slickly took off my shoe and pinched him with my toes. He yelped and father looked at us with a death glare.
My biological mother, although I didn't know her name, taught me to believe in fate and destiny. So I prayed to the Star Gods ever since. Ishkar and Malikshikizar have blessed me with my idiot brother and Allan, but I want a partner to stay with me forever. Sadly, I was also taught that forever hurts. Forever doesn't last and nothing good stays for long, like in Robert Frost's poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay." Enjoy your childhood while it lasts, but how can I enjoy it if I can't find a way to stop thinking about him.
✰✰✰Time Lapse✰✰✰
It's bedtime but I can't layout on my bed just to think about him. I pulled out "The Never-Ending Sunset" and resumed my reading.
Book: The boy held Hailey's hand and pulled him back. 'Why don't you want me? I've given you my all.' Hailey stood there silently and pulled away. Tears started forming up in his swollen eyes. The boy let go and revealed his fair face.
He was already tall, but nobody has ever seen his face or skin tone exactly. His olive skin complemented his fairly icy eyes and his snow-white teeth. His freckles danced across his well-rounded nose, giving his face a dolly look. His silky wavy chestnut-coloured hair just went well with his pinkish lips. Hailey blushed but didn't reveal his true feelings in fear this might be a trap. 'Why don't you reject me now? Do you only care about looks rather than personality? I was deceived to think you'd like me.'
I yawned and finally realized how tired I was. Only then did I feel the urge to stop reading and leave me in the care of the sleep I felt. I prayed to the Star Gods for a partner that would be by my side and would be loyal. I prayed and prayed for years and never thought it would come true...
