The beating sound of the drums was agonizing. The constant pounding was becoming unbearable. My every breath becoming shallower. I must get away or I will die.

.....

This was not how I imagined my weekend going when I stopped at the quaint book shop on Cedar Avenue after night school. But to be blunt no one would have been able to predict the events that followed... Followed me home to be exact.

The Friday morning began like any other. I will admit though waking up in bed was a nice change. Usually I would end up passed out in front of my laptop. My dedication to online gaming can be somewhat debilitating at times. My cat stretched out across my legs, no wonder I felt trapped. Duck, as he was now fondly called after being used as ammunition in a little disagreement between me and my girlfriend, was what you would refer to as a toughie. Always in the wars but made it through no matter what. That's one thing I admired about him. He would shrug off any ailment as if it were nothing.

"You're going to be late", says a voice coming from the kitchen. Now I know what had awoken me. I smelled bacon.

Tugging at the bed cover I start to rise from my comfort. Grabbing my Stone Sour t-shirt off the floor I make my way to the kitchen, the scent of sizzling pig fat becoming all the more alluring. Even the blinding halo of daylight engulfing the kitchen would not falter my steps.

"I hope you at least finished your essay before logging on last night." Amber was undoubtedly my better half in more ways than one. Rescuing me from a gamer's diet of nothing but junk food, she made sure I improved my eating habits.

"Almost", I groan while trying to ease into the chair at the breakfast nook. That bacon smells truly invigorating.

"Well you better have it done before classes tonight. You were on to something interesting. Really curious to see what your lecturer says about it." Amber always supported me, even though at times I wondered why.

"Heh... You would have laughed so hard at Wayne and the boys last night", clearly sidestepping the inquiry. "They were owned by some unknown clan. UniqueLegacy I think, or something like that. Wayne was raging all night about it." My leg starts to vibrate as a body of fur rubs up against it, Duck obviously has been lured from his slumber with a promise of bacon.

"Well he tends to think he is the best all the time. It's good when he gets taken down a peg or two", she said with a slight laugh while placing breakfast on the table. Succulent bacon and eggs. I really should buy new plates, the meal is somewhat let down being served on cracked and chipped crockery.

None the less it was a brilliant meal. Isn't weird how your last meal is always your tastiest. Just ask a cellmate on death row.
