JUNGKOOK

Jungkook checks his phone for what seems like the millionth time that week. Except for some congratulatory messages from his parents and friends, there's nothing from you.

Didn't you miss him?

He misses you so much, his whole body aches with the phantom pain of your absence.

Pulling up his chat thread with you, he types out several messages, ranging from a casual 'how are you' to more desperate variations of "I miss you." Just like before, he deletes all of them before hitting send. Scrolling up, he sees the cold responses from your last conversation. Your words still stab icicles into his chest.

Admittedly, he knows he shouldn't have left so abruptly, but he thought he'll go see you before going to the airport and everything will be fine. You don't respond to his text, though. By afternoon, he sends you a message about his trip, hoping that will start a conversation. But you don't even ask where he's going or with whom. You just didn't care. Annoyed, he told himself not to text you.

It's been seven days since.

He never should have done something so juvenile.

Gnawing on the inside of his cheek, Jungkook props his head against the window, not knowing what to do. Outside, the dark grey waters of the Yellow Sea tinged with the soft hues of twilight flashes past as the car crosses the bridge from Incheon to Seoul.

Maybe you're mad he didn't tell you about his trip earlier?

Maybe you're mad he didn't tell you about his trip earlier?

The thing is he's been hesitant to tell you about his job. For one thing, not many people think pro-gaming is a serious career choice. To be fair, it's a very risky path and like any sport, it comes with a deadline. But he's really good at it. Good enough to win competitions and build a nest egg for the future. Honestly, Jungkook doesn't think you'll mind his profession, but what about the fame that comes with it? Although he can't say he's that popular, he's well-known enough to have things published about him online. And there lies the problem. When he started playing, it was very important for him to look cool, so he built up this stupid bad boy persona. His hyungs call it his "emo phase" and sometimes, still tease him about it. The girls love it, though. Many approach him only because they had a preconceived image of who he was. His teenage self enjoyed the attention. Not now. The thing he fears most is you searching his name and discovering all the foolish things he's done.

What if his fear has come to pass?

Jungkook bites back a groan, fervently wishing that wasn't so.
