It is a well known fact that we are in need of new projectors for our classrooms. The projectors that we were using had several issues. Six of them have burned out lamps and when researching for replacements was done, it was found that they were no longer available for those particular models. four projectors have brackets that are broken and the brackets cost as much to replace as the price of a new projector on sale. two have been dropped from bracket failure and no longer work. These ten projectors are needed for the computer science classes. It was also found that four of our computer networking and six of our computer security classes have projectors that have been borrowed from other departments because of their projectors had to be thrown away due to them not working. It is very apparent that we have an urgent need for more projectors mainly because we are experiencing a severe shortage of them.
A considerable amount of research on this matter was done and it was found that since these projectors are between 8 and 10 years old, it would be more economical and beneficial for our students and faculty to replace these old projectors with new ones. Research was done both online, by checking out different websites such Sanyo.com, Casio.com Epson.com Hitachi.com and Amazon.com, and physically going to different stores that sell projectors such as Best Buy, Circuit City. Research was also done on several companies such as Sanyo, Toshiba, Casio and Epson and it was found that Hitachi has comparable longevity and reliability and very few complaints. All of the companies named above were searched in the following areas: cost, since we have limited funding, sturdiness, since they will be attached to the ceiling of our classrooms if they should fall from their mounts, will be sturdy enough to handle it, warranty coverage, at least 3 years for parts since they will be used on a daily basis and mount ability, since some projectors don’t have a mount option for them....continue....
